5 Things You May Have Not Known About Fashion Week(s)

Hi babes! Ahhhh, still on a high from Fashion Week but am so happy to be back with my baby! I mean I really missed my husband when I was at Fashion Week last year but it was crazy hard being away from baby Weaver this year. I’m not sure I can do 5 days without him ever again!

As you may have seen, my sweet Mom was able to partake in the New York Fashion Week festivities and I couldn’t have been happier! She was a natural sitting in the front row with her sunglasses on, haha! But she did have some questions which inspired me to write this post! Today I am sharing some fun facts about fashion week. But first, outfit details.

Okay, so story time. During one of my late night shopping escapades I came across EzPopsy online. It was love at first sight when I saw this matching set so I purchased it immediately but I wanted to give you a heads up and let you know that it’s an overseas website so it took like 3 weeks to get to me! Thankfully it came in before New York Fashion Week because honestly I forgot I even ordered it! Anyway, I just wanted to give you all a heads up because they have some really cute items on the site but just know it takes a while to arrive. It’s kind of like how Shein used to be but Shein has gotten so much faster with shipping. Shopping tip for Shein is that if you see an express shipping option on an item, that item is available to arrive within the next week usually.

5 FACTS ABOUT FASHION WEEKS

1- The Big Four aka New York, Milan, London and Paris hold 2 shows a year. – The fall/winter collections are featured in February and the spring/summer collections are featured in September. So when you saw me at fashion week this September what we were actually previewing is 2019’s spring/summer collection. The shows are timed this way so that buyers can place orders and have them arrive in stores in time for the season. My first fashion week was actually a Mercedes Benz Fashion Week that used to be held in LA. It was 2006 and it was my first Buying job. It was quite an amazing experience so as you can imagine it’s a dream come true to be invited to New York Fashion Week not as a Buyer but as myself, for being an influencer. Pinch me.

2- There are about 40 fashion weeks held in different cities around the world every year. – Smaller fashion weeks are held in many countries and cities but the Big Four are the most prominent.

3- New York Fashion Week is the oldest. – In 1943 New York had their first ever fashion week. The newest of the Big Four is London. Fashion Week started as a trade only event that was only open to buyers and manufacturers. – As you may have noticed, now celebrities and influencers are attending the shows.

4- Fashion shows usually last about 20 minutes. – And usually never start on time, haha. Last year I had so many shows back to back and that was such a bad idea because the first show would start 45 minutes late and then the next show started on time. It’s so unpredictable. If one designer is showing then the runway show will last about 15-20 minutes. If you are going to a show where multiple designers are being featured than of course that will be longer. I attended 2 of those types of shows this year and they lasted about 30-45 minutes.

5- Not all shows are runways shows– In addition to runway shows, designers hold presentations where the models are wearing the clothing, posed in certain areas around the room or just walking around so that you can actually see the garment and touch the fabric if you want to. I actually really love presentations because they are more intimate and it’s always amazing to see the creativity that does into the set up. Here are examples from the Lela Rose presentation. It took place on a boat and really captures where the inspiration came from.

3 Trends You Will See Everywhere This Fall

Yay, we made it to the middle of the week! I guess it wasn’t that hard with a 3 day weekend 🙂 I’m still a little under the weather, blah! But I’m drinking all the vitamin C and liquids because your girl leaves for New York tomorrow!

Today I am sharing 3 trends that are huge for Fall and I know we will see so much of them during New York Fashion Week.

1. Blazer Dresses- I personally love this trend. You all already know that I love blazers but I love how the dress silhouette gives the oversized blazer a more feminine touch.

2. Polka Dots- Polka dots used to be looked at as a print that was for the younger crowd but move over toddlers, mama gets to match you this season! 🙂 It’s such a fun print that we all need in our life. This blazer dress is like a two in one combo!

3. White Shoes- This was huge for Fall and Winter last year and I’m so happy it’s back this year. I didn’t get enough wear out of my white ankle booties so I’m excited to wear them again this season!

Instagram vs. Reality

Happy Monday loves! I am so sorry I have been slacking on my blog posts lately. Life has been extremely busy. I’m like screaming inside but keeping all smiles on the outside 🙂 which is exactly what inspired me to get this post up today!

As a blogger I post things on social media daily, it’s part of my job. And as part of my brand, I like to keep things positive. That is why when you go to my social media pages you will see 99% of the things I post are all the “happy” things in life. I love sharing positive quotes, pictures and captions to make you smile and most days I am smiling on the outside and inside. But what you don’t always see are life’s not so happy and sometimes even terrifying moments.

From the outside looking in, I know it may look like a blogger is “living the life” but in reality most of us are just living our lives. And that means all the good, bad and the ugly that comes with it. Instagram is just a highlight reel of someone’s life. Instagram is a platform to help us share joy, outfits, recipes, etc. with each other. It doesn’t always show the whole truth.

I’ve seen a few of the bloggers I follow share Instagram vs. Reality posts where they show the hard work and struggle that actually goes into making that one photo perfect. One of my personal favorite Instagram vs. Reality posts are when bloggers share bloopers from their shoots LOL. But today, I’ve decided to share something a little different because personally, my family and I have gone through some scary moments in the past year and although I share bits and pieces about that every now and then I just wanted to give you all a good example of what social media can portray vs. what may really be going on behind the scenes.

Instagram vs. Reality Example One

What do you see? Probably this pretty pink Free People sweater that was trending like crazy last Fall!

What you don’t see: We got a phone call that morning for a Foster to Adopt placement. It was for a baby boy who was 2 months old and had been left at a fire station. They called me right before I walked into a meeting. I immediately said yes, called Brandon and sat down in my meeting. It was only like 5 minutes and I was already so invested in this baby. 10 minutes into my meeting Brandon called and I answered because I thought we was going to tell me details on pick up but he was actually calling me to tell me that the baby had been placed with another family.

Our agency told us that situations like this could happen but nothing prepares you for it. It took EVERYTHING in me not to breakdown crying in that meeting.

Instagram vs. Reality Example Two- literally only one week later

What do you see? Maybe a super fun travel pic and a happy care bears tee? You possibly read the first sentence of my caption talking about how it was my birthday.

What you don’t see: We got a second phone call for an adoption placement this day. This time they called Brandon. We were in Colorado for my birthday, I was relaxing at the hotel because Brandon went to go visit a customer that afternoon. He called me and said “the agency called. There are 2 little girls, sisters, under 2 that needed to be placed”. We told the agency we could hop on the next flight home and they said as long as we could get there by 6pm then we were good to go. I never packed up a hotel room so fast in my life! Brandon met me in the lobby and we didn’t even check out we were rushing out of there so fast! Brandon was flying to the airport as I was looking up flights back to Houston. There was literally one leaving in 30 minutes so we decided that I would rush to get on that one and Brandon would take the next one so he could check in our bags. We pulled up to the airport and Brandon’s phone rings…another family from a different agency was available to pick the girls up asap so…yup you guessed it. We didn’t get placed that day. It was definitely another sad moment but maybe the week prior had prepared me a little bit because I didn’t cry that time. And then when we turned back around to go back to the hotel Brandon and I laughed because we realized we never checked out and said to eachother “well I guess that worked out” lol

Instagram vs. Reality Example Three

Ahhhh!!! We were finally placed with our sweet baby boy. He had been in daycare for one whole week when I took this photo. And with daycare came a full on stomach virus. He got it. I got. I actually had blog campaign due the very next week so I couldn’t cancel this photoshoot with Yash.

So what you don’t see? I had to pull over twice on the way to this photoshoot so I could throw up. So gross I know. But again, Instagram vs. Reality my friends.

What do you see? A sweet photo of us on our anniversary trip with our sweet baby Weaver. Maybe you think “yay, they finally got placed with their son!”

What you don’t see: 4 days prior during one of our casual, routine CPS visits they notify us that a blood relative wanted custody and verbatim she said “once she passes the background check it could happen quickly”. Just like that. So matter of fact. “Once she passes”, basically our whole lives would have been turned upside down.

I looked back to my Instagram to see if one picture that week showed an emotion of sadness that would have even given the hint that we had a rough week that week. Nope, not one photo. That’s the “beauty” of social media.

Instagram vs Reality Example Five

What do you see? A smiling gal at a popular Houston restaurant? I was actually having lunch with my team that day.

What you don’t see: Actually I myself didn’t even see it coming. Right after lunch that day Brandon called me on my way back to the office. He had gone to court for the both of us that day. Since the court hearings were basically a day long event we took turns on who would attend.

Anyway, Brandon called to tell me that another relative showed up to court that day. He wanted to put forth a “family friend” to take custody of baby Weaver. This family member had never met baby Weaver nor had the “family friend” but according to CPS a family member will always take precedence over a non relative adoption.

Sh#t.

Excuse my language here but honestly that was the first word that came to mind. I can’t really describe it any other way.

Without getting into the details, that person clearly did not check out nor did the other family member I mentioned earlier but in all scenarios we went hours, days, weeks, honestly it wasn’t until last week (almost 10 months later you guys!!) that all of my fears were diminished of losing our son. If you have talked to me in the past ten months I probably told you “everything was good and that we weren’t worried”. Well, I’m sorry that I partially lied to you. Yes, everything was good. It is good. But with all of these surprises and unknown we were still really scared on what could have happened. As you may know, we received some really good news last week.

We (thank the good Lord) are in a position that we have been praying about. Thank you Jesus. But before I steer this blog post into another direction my point today is that life isn’t always as it seems on social media.

Some might ask “why would I even choose to post that day if I was really having a bad day?”. Well, because in most cases I signed a contract with a company agreeing that I would post my review that day. Clearly not knowing what life could throw at us that day.

Life is…truly like a box of chocolates 🙂

The comparison game is so real and I’ve heard people say that they stop following bloggers that they originally loved following because it started to make them feel bad about themselves. That breaks my heart but I totally get it. If you ever start to feel like that just try and remember that Instagram is just a highlight reel and that everyone has their own struggles even if it doesn’t seem like it because of a perfectly staged photo.

I know I’m struggling like everyday over here, haha. These are just 5 examples but trust me I could share like 100 more.

Pleated Skater Dress + 2 Things I Learned This Week That Blew My Mind

Happy Monday beauties!

I listen to 104.1 KRBE almost everyday on my way to work and they do this thing called dumb question amnesty. Basically it’s a segment where anyone call in with a “dumb” question and it’s a judgment free zone. The radio hosts answer their questions or listeners call in to help answer the question.

Anywho, I always laugh at this segment because they are truly legit questions, even if they sound silly to some. My point here today is, if you already knew the 2 things that totally blew my mind this week, then don’t judge. 🙂 One of them is probably something we learned in 6th grade science but I wasn’t paying attention that day!

Okay so…you know that Meme that is like “I went to YouTube for one thing and than 5 hours later I know how to talk to giraffes?”

Yeah, that one. Anyway, during one of my sleepless night escapades, and instead of doing anything productive I was reading articles upon articles that really added no value to my life except to share with you what I learned LOL.

Did you know it rains diamonds on Saturn?

Yes, for real. I mean technically (according to the internet) “As the clouds of soot fall towards the planet, they clump together forming graphite, and as the pressure builds up closer to the planet’s core, that graphite is compressed into pure diamond, thus literally raining diamonds on Saturn.”

Why is this so fascinating to me?! Literally I read articles for like an hour because I didn’t want this mind blowing news to be #fakenews.

So tell me…did we learn this in 6th grade science?

Okay, the other thing that I “learned” this week was, actually this is a 2 part deal. Australia has over ONE THOUSAND beaches meaning you could go to a new beach every single day for 27 years! Also, on one of the islands off of the West Coast of Australia is Lake Hillier. A BRIGHT BUBBLE PINK LAKE!

According to WorldAtlas.com, the pink waters of Lake Hillier are caused by the presence of the Dunaliella salina microalgae. I don’t know how accurate that is and those words didn’t sound amusing enough for me to want to Google so you can tell me if that is correct. 🙂 They already had me at pink.lake.

If you are wondering why I even fell into that hole, it’s because Brandon and I actually wanted to stop in Australia last year before our trip to New Zealand but with the amount of time we had, it didn’t make since to stop after all so Australia has definitely made it’s way to the top of our bucket list! And since we won’t be taking an international trip this year like we normally do, we plan on doing one when all is finalized with Baby Weaver’s paperwork so long story short, I’m up at 3am planning that trip, LOL.

Please don’t tell me I’m not the only one who gets sucked into this randomness and enjoys it oh so much! 🙂

DSW’s Newest Style Squad: 3 Reasons Why I Am Already Loving This Partnership

Ahhhhh, I feel like I have been waiting to share this news with you guys for centuries! I am over the moon to announce that you are looking at DSW’s newest Style Squad!

I mean look at how beautiful and stylish these babes are! Wouldn’t you want to be a part of that squad too?!

Over a month ago DSW reached out to us and notified us that we were handpick to be the newest Fall Style Squad. Ummm, pinch me!!

There are so many reasons that I am so stoked about this partnership! The obvious reasons are shoes, duh 🙂 And the fact that I was even selected out of so many talented and beautiful influencers out there to be a part of this squad is amazing. 2- Our style is so different – We didn’t coordinate our looks at all for the photoshoot. We knew each girl would bring her best outfit to express her style. This squad is such a great representation of a real girl squad. Each babe unique and Extraordinary in her own, special way. I am so excited to collaborate and share everyone’s unique style throughout the upcoming months.

3- WE are so different. – We all come from different backgrounds, different ethnicities but we all work just as hard to live the life we love and embrace eachothers stories. The digital influencer world has grown into what we are because we bring a sense of realness to the game. Not everyone can relate to a runway model billboard advertisement but I’m sure you can list a bunch of bloggers who you can relate to because they look a little more like you, are your size, maybe come from a similar background. I couldn’t be more excited that they picked each one of us. So different, each has a different story to tell and a different style to share.

1- Know what is tax exempt and what is not – Most clothing, backpacks and school supplies under $100 are tax free this weekend. See the full list here.

2- Know when tax free weekend is – Each state differs. Tax Free Weekend in Texas this year is August 10-12th.

3- Know when to start shopping – The answer is now. Whether you are shopping for yourself or for your kids, try to go in a day before to try on sizes and make a list of everything you need (sizes included) so that you can be sure to snag all the things without waiting in line for a dressing room. Even ask if the sales associate can put your items on hold for the next day. If not, at least you will know exactly what you need to grab and just need to pay or them. Tax Free Weekend is cray so this is the way to go if you still want to take advantage of the sales.

4- How to save even more money? – This is a 2 part answer. The first thing you need to do is visit this link to get your coupons that will get you an additional 25% off your purchases! Remember some stores will even apply this to clearance items!!

Another way to save even more money is knowing retailers are competing for your business so it doesn’t hurt to ask for a price match if you see the item at another retailer for a lower price.

Wear To Work: Printed Ankle Pants

Happy Monday friends!

If you remember, I mentioned in this post that I bought these pants in 3 colors because I love the fit so much! I am always on the hunt for easy and affordable work wear! If you were looking for cute and affordable work wear, these pants should be on your list! They are true to size and I am wearing a size 4. For some weird reason, the printed pants fit a little more snug than the plain black ones but not too snug. Like if I got the next size, they would be way too big. I just want to point that out in case you get them and are wondering if it’s just you. It’s not, it’s the pants 🙂

As you can see, I styled both of these looks super simple with a basic tee and the other with a basic tank. I would actually throw a blazer over the white cami for the office but to be totally honest, this was the 5th outfit change during my photoshoot with Yash and I was just trying to not sweat my booty off, haha! This is one of my favorite white blazers in case you are looking for one!

Did you all have a great weekend?! I sure hope so! Why do the weekends fly by so quickly?! There is just not enough snuggle time with my little guy! When we were visiting a vendor in Austin last week so many of the employees had their dogs in the office with little baby gates. I asked my boss if I could bring baby Weaver in everyday if I just put a babe gate up 🙂 Unfortunately, he said no but I’ll keep trying, haha!

I hope you guys have an amazing week! I have some really exciting things to share with you all this week! The first piece of good news is coming Friday and the second piece of amazing news that I have been hinting at will be shared Sunday!

OMG I’m so excited to share with you guys and of course I am trying to think of some fun ways to give back to you guys because I couldn’t have done it without you!!!

Balayage and Haircut with Estilo Salon

Hi babes!

A few months ago I met with Estilo Salon and Spa in the Montrose area to discuss some hair services. To be totally honest with you I was just thinking a hair cut because I literally have not colored my hair in over ten years. I didn’t want anything high maintenance. There are so many times I have seen a hairstyle in a magazine or on Pinterest and thought “I want my hair to look like that!” but then immediately thought about how much time I would have to sit in a chair and how often I would have to get a touch up. I wasn’t willing to commit. But in the middle of my conversation with Vanessa, one of the owners of Estilo Salon, I complimented her on her gorgeous hair. And she was like “oh my gosh, I haven’t colored my hair in 8 months and I was like “gimme some of that!” lol so basically that’s how I ended up deciding I was okay with trying out color again.

About 3 weeks later I met with Megan for my hair appointment and I’ve been in love with my hair ever since. Megan was super sweet and was trying to get an idea of what I wanted to do with my hair. My main concern like I said before was that I wanted it to be low maintenance and also I wanted to keep my length with long layers but I didn’t want it to look choppy when I wore my hair straight. She worked her magic and voila she gave my hair life and most importantly 2 months later I am still loving it and don’t feel like I will need to get a touch up any time soon. I’m hoping I can go like every 9 months LOL but I’ll let you know. And just to give you more info about my hair type in case you were considering changing up your hair. It’s naturally jet black, super straight and again, it had been over 10 years since I colored it. I did a full balayage highlight with a gloss to add shine. If you are wanting to schedule an appointment, I can highly recommend Megan Halvorsen!

Although I won’t be needing to get my bayalage touched up soon. I will be going back for another blowout! They are currently running a blowout special so I wanted to be sure I shared that with you all too!
