8 Amazon toddler items that Make learning more fun

Mama’s out there trying to teach your kids, work from home, stay quarantined, stay active, remember to wash your hands, and basically do all the things. I SEE you! And I feel you LOL! Last week was a learning one for all of us. Landon is still getting used to being at home all day with mama and now Daddy is officially working from home as well so now mama is trying to get used to him being home all day too ๐Ÿ™‚

I have to be honest though I am actually loving being Landon’s substitute teacher! I mean, don’t get me wrong, he tests me for sure! But I have really enjoyed putting together his learning activities and seeing him learn so many new things. I am sharing a few things that we have either had or recently ordered from Amazon that helps make our learning activities more fun and our “school space more organized!

fun-toddler-learning-activities
  1. Laminated Learning Charts – We have had these for a few months now and Landon loves them! It’s a fun way for him to get to play the teacher while he points out the shapes, numbers, letters, etc. all while keeping the learning going. I linked the exact ones that we have above but it looks like it will take approximately 2 weeks to get to you if you order them today. They were available via Prime when we got them. If you need them sooner, I found this set of 8 that can arrive this week.
  2. Magnet Tiles – There are a ton of different brands out there but we love these specific ones because they are really sturdy. Also an easy and fun way to get your toddler to play around with building things with different shapes. This set comes with 100 pieces but if your wild child likes to build really, really tall buildings and watch them fall like mine, lol, I suggest buying 2 sets. We purchased 3.
  3. Art Easel– One side is for chalk and the other side is for dry erase markers. Great for learning time and art time. You can use the clips that are included to hang your laminated charts and also hang poster paper if your kiddo wants to pant.
  4. 3 Piece Table and Chair Set– Just purchased this little set! We were doing our learning time all over the kitchen table and coffee table which is totally fine but now that we are all three working from home ๐Ÿ™‚ I thought it would be a good idea to give Landon his own learning table downstairs so he knows that space is his. Even though he really does think all the space in this house is his ๐Ÿ™‚
  5. Reusable Sticker Books– Landon loves playing with stickers but I always thought it was such a waste letting him put stickers on surfaces and then having to throw them away later. Now that we are doing sticker time more I wanted to find another solution. I have been letting him play with stickers that go with the letter of the day. For example, if we are doing the letter F, I let him play with stickers of flowers, firefighters, etc. I don’t want to keep throwing these perfectly good stickers away so I purchased these reusable sticker books.
  6. Glitter Letter Foam Stickers– I use these in different ways. My favorite one is, if we are practicing the letter “F”, I throw some letters in a bin of kinetic sand and let Landon search for them and find all of the “F’s”. You could also just throw the letters in a pile but the sand makes it a little more fun ๐Ÿ™‚
  7. Kinetic Sand – Speaking of sand, we love how this sand is not messy and the littles can get so creative! You can also buy the sets like this one that come with sand molding toys or you can use your own bin of sand like I talked about above. You could also throw cars in there for “C” day or shells in there for “S” day.
  8. My Calendar– This magnetic wall calendar is a great way for toddlers to learn how to better understand the days of the week, seasons and even weather! If you are anything like me, you probably could also use help on what day of the week it is LOL.

So these are the top 8 things we have been loving for our home school life as of lately! I think your toddler would love them too! Let me know if you all have any of these already! I’d love to hear ๐Ÿ™‚

9 Cozy Outfits That You Can Wear Out in public

Happy Friday friends! This Friday looks a lot different from last Friday, am I right?! If you are feeling anything like me then in your mind it’s basically day 232 into practicing social distancing. LOL! But all jokes aside, even though this Friday is so different than Friday’s before I can’t help but feel super grateful for all of the extra time I am getting with my little man. It’s allowing us to slow down a little and really look at the small things in our lives we should be grateful for. Plus, everyday I ask Landon if he wants to go to Mommy’s school or his other school, he chooses Mommy’s and I couldn’t love that more! ๐Ÿ™‚

Everyday looks a little different but for the most part we been doing learning activities after breakfast and then doing a bike ride or walk before lunch. So today I am sharing 9 cozy outfits that you can wear around the house but also cute enough that you can throw on tennis shoes and wear out in public (6 feet away from each other of course).

4 At Home Workouts- no eQUIPMENT NEEDED

Hi beautiful friends! If you caught my Instagram stories yesterday, you probably got a kick out of my alternative gym equipment ๐Ÿ™‚ As much as I love working out, sometimes it’s hard for me to get motivated to work out at home . Today I am sharing some of my favorite at home workouts. They are quick, effective and do not call for any weights or equipment!

I am still doing the Faster Way To Fat Loss Program as well but I totally understand that with these uncertain times financially, a lot of us don’t want to spend the money so I just wanted share something we can all follow for free!

You can easily screenshot any of the workouts below and just save them to your phone! Get it girl!

Make sure to do a 5-10 minute warm up before each workout. I usually just set a 5 minute timer on my phone and do warm up exercises until my alarm goes off. Jumping jacks, jogging in place, butt kicks, arms swings, etc. If Brandon is home, I’ll try to go for a 10 minute jog around the neighborhood to warm up. Whatever you can do, just make sure you warm up for at least 5 minutes before starting an exercise.

To The Moon and Back Baby Shower

Hi friends! Gosh, it is such a crazy time right now that I don’t even know what to post. I am just continuing to pray for God to take away some of this anxiety and I will try my best to just be a shining light and fun space for all of you to escape to!

So to put a big smile on everyone’s face today, I am sharing the sweetest baby shower that we threw for one of our best friends, Margret, last month. The theme was To The Moon and Back and I absolutely loved how everything came out! And most importantly Margret loved everything too!

to-the-moon-and-back-baby-shower

We wanted to keep the baby shower simple yet chic with touches of white, gold and baby blue for baby boy on the way! The hostesses, Keli, Rebekah, Mashid, Annie and I divided up tasks and I must say we basically nailed every detail lol. We wanted to be sure Margret had the baby shower of her dreams and by the smile on her face I think we did pretty darn good!

Balloons: The beautiful balloon arch added such a special touch to the baby shower and made for the perfect photo opportunity. It was one of the first things you saw as you walked in and definitely set off the perfect first impression. This bigger than life arch was made by Balloons by Isabella.

Tables and Chairs: I always turn to Sky High Party Rentals for Landon’s parties. They have tables, chairs, outdoor games, bounce houses, cotton candy machines, basically all the things! I was so happy to see they had these 6 foot garden tables and white chairs to add a special and elevated table and chair look to Margret’s event. I would highly recommend them for your next event.

Grazing Table: Can we take a second to appreciate this grazing table of all of our dreams come true?! Margret really wanted the grazing table for her baby shower. The hostesses and I were Pinteresting (is that a word?!) and brainstorming on how to make the perfect, larger than life charcuterie board but at the last minute found Legendairy Katy. I mean, I know the girls and I may have done an okay job but holy smokes Legendairy Katy killed it! I am so glad we left it up to the professionals here! LOL. This was way more than we could have ever imagined. People were so in awe over it. It was so pretty we almost didn’t want to dig in! But once we did, it was just as delicious as it was pretty and we couldn’t stop eating it lol.

Baby Shower Cake and Desserts: Gali’s Goodies did such an amazing job on the desserts but I am not surprised! We sent them some cake inspiration and they beyond nailed it! I loved how they designed the simple yet chic, half naked cake. The to the moon and back cake pops were beyond our expectations and the white chocolate covered strawberries were amazing too. Not only are their desserts as cute as they come but they are extremely delicious! They also did Landon’s carnival themed birthday cake last year. Check that out here.

March Target Try On Haul

Yesterday Cindy and I had some fun in Target trying on all the new Spring things! We took some of the same pieces and styled them differently for ya’ll and then we found some additional pieces we loved and I am sharing all of them below along with sizing info!

how-to-style-a-tshirt-dress

A super cute and lightweight t-shirt dress that can be styled so many different ways. I am wearing a small and Cindy is wearing an extra large. Love how the dresses look with both the denim jacket and button up tied around the waist!

Shop our outfits:

matching-sweatsuit-set

Me and JLo, I mean Cindy :), both loved this set! So comfy and so adorable how the tie dye is almost like a zebra print! I am wearing a small in the sweatshirt and Cindy is wearing extra large in both pieces.

Shop our outfits:

matching-sweatshirt-set
matching-sweatshirt-set

I wanted to get in on the matching sweatsuit set! I love this light green color. The hoodie on this set is regular length as oppose to the tie dye one that is cropped so if you don’t like the cropped style, this one is a great option! Runs true to size.

Shop our outfits:

spring-maxi-dress

This swiss dot maxi dress is so pretty. It runs true to size and is the perfect length for us shorties. The only thing I would say is that the top is a little sheer, not see through but it was a little sheer with even a nude bra so I would recommend wearing either a lace bralette or a cami underneath. I could only find the extended sizes online but it’s a brand new dress so I am sure you can find it in store!

Shop our outfits:

neon-dress

I think this was my favorite dress from the try on! And I really loved that Cindy said she would have never grabbed the dress but loved it when she put it on. It’s like a muted neon yellow color and I just ordered it in white. ๐Ÿ™‚ We both totally forgot to grab shoes for our try on so I am linking some cute sandal options below.

Shop our outfits:

sleeveless-boho-dress

These dresses are super cute too! Another maxi that is perfect for us shorties.

Shop these dresses:

stripe-button-up-top
stripe-button-up-top

A great lightweight button up for the hotter weather. I couldn’t find my exact jeans online but they are from the Universal Thread brand and they had quite a few in store. Wearing a 2 in the jeans and small in the top.

Shop our outfits:

Here are the same shorts I styled above but Cindy is showing you how the stripe pair looks equally as cute with a plain white tee. You could throw a denim jacket over it as well.

floral-mini-dress

Grabbed this pretty little floral dress right before we walked into the dressing room. Love the ditsy floral print and square neckline.

Shop this dress and cute sandals that would be cute with it:

blazer-outfit

Love how Cindy styled this outfit 3 ways! I think I’m gonna need that mint blazer for myself!

Shop these outfits:

cute-graphic-tees

It’s no secret I am a huge fan of graphic tees. If one has a kind or motivational saying on the front that is definitely a plus. This beige tee says “more kindness more good vibes”. It’s a boxy, cropped fit so I grabbed a medium.

I hoped you all loved our Target try on haul! It’s always so much more fun shopping with friends! Let me know if you have questions about anything!

6 Things That You May Not Know About Adoption Through Foster Care

I am continuously blown away by the out pour of love and also questions we receive every time I talk about our story or adoption in general. I love that you all are so interested and even a few of you coming to me for foster to adopt advice. This tells me this is a topic I should continue talking about and I couldn’t be happier about it.

To be honest, we have learned so much along the way and continue to learn new things as we go through now a whole different chain of approvals as we process our state to state paperwork to get baby sister home to us as quickly as possible.

Today I want to share 6 facts that you may not know about the foster to adopt process. These are things that we didn’t even know until we began the process but I think are so important for someone thinking about fostering to adopt.

mommy-and-son-outfits

6 Things That You May Not Know About Adoption Through Foster Care

  1. Children who have been in or currently are in the foster care system get free, yes free, state college tuition in the state of Texas. This means any child who is adopted through the foster care system, Landon for example, will get free college tuition. And even kids that are never adopted but are in the foster care system and want to go to college will receive free tuition as well. This was mind blowing ya’ll and we didn’t even find this out until after we were placed with Landon.
  2. Thousands of kids will “age out” of the system– I always go into a black hole of the internet when I start reading into these articles. It’s actually really sad. Multiple articles have stated that more than 20,000+ kids will age out of the foster system each year. Aging out basically means these children turn 18 and unfortunately never placed in a forever home. And like I mentioned before even with the free college opportunity, I can only imagine some of them may feel like they don’t even know where to begin. Can you imagine? If I didn’t have my parents to help guide me or keep pushing me to do the right thing when I was at this age I would have been so lost.

I found the following information on Adoption.com, “20% of the children who age out of the foster care system will instantly become homeless, 25% will suffer with PTSD, less than 3% will earn a college degree, 70% of girls who age out of the system will become pregnant before the age of 21”.

I won’t go off topic too much here but before I left my corporate job all I kept thinking is how I wanted to get involved in a program or start one that helped these young men and women about to age out of the system and help them get onto the right path. I just feel like with a little help to point them in the right direction, it could be life changing. There is already many things in place for these kids and they just need help on how to begin. We are about to have our hands full getting sister comfortable in her new home but once we do, I am definitely going to find a way to get more involved.

3. Kid’s in the foster care system are fully covered by Medicaid – I had a work colleague that had a daughter through adoption. Later on in life she was diagnosed with Lupus and after years and years of medical bills and moving houses, he was opening what he thought was another piece of junk mail one day. It ended up being paperwork asking him to update his daughters info for her state provided medical insurance. Again, just an added benefit but at this time in their life felt like God sent. These are just things that not all of us know but are so beneficial.

I mean goodness, he didn’t even know for years and it could have helped out so much in their situation. Most people don’t go into the whole foster to adopt process thinking about these type of benefits but I want to share them because they sure are great benefits to help foster parents provide the best life for these sweet children.

4. Fostering to adopt can cost you basically $0 – There are two mainstream ways to adopt. One is very costly and one will cost you little to nothing. Fostering to adopt services are contracted through the state, so most traditional adoption costs are eliminated. The adoptive family primarily pays for the costs of the paperwork and attorney. We personally spent around $1,000 which included 1) Certifications 2) Background Checks 3) Hiring an Attorney 4) Finalization of our adoption. Arms Wide is the agency that we used and they are non profit. They do not require any fees and they help with the entire process from setting you up with classes to get certifications, monthly visits, checking in with CPS case workers, prepare you for what to expect, etc. They are the ones that get notified when children are “put into the system” and call you immediately when they find a placement.

I always appreciated our agency but even more so now as they are “all hands on deck” trying to help us get baby sister home as quickly as possible.

5. There is no “typical case” – One of the things I am most thankful for about our agency was that they did not sugarcoat anything. They told us what could be best case scenario but also prepared us for what could be worse case scenario. Even now with baby sister. Everything is completely different from what we had to go through with Landon. We can talk more about that in another post.

6. Foster Parents & Adoptive Parents can receive a monthly stipend – Yes, this is true. Unfortunately, some people take advantage of this and that’s when you hear some not so great stories where foster parents take in children and the children are not being cared for or even sometimes mistreated. These people are in it just to collect money. It’s sad and I know that even though I would get annoyed by the routine in home visits, I understand there is reason all of these protocols are put into place. Depending on the age and needs of the child, the stipend amount will vary. Again, just another added benefit to help you provide the best life for these angels.

I could go on and on about this topic but today I really just wanted to highlight 6 main things that I did not know before going through the process. I have so many things adoption related I will be talking about in the upcoming months. A lot of topic ideas from you guys so please keep the questions coming in if you are wanting more information.

I appreciate you all for being here. Just a friendly reminder that you can always type “adoption” into the search bar and read my other adoption related posts.

Golden Goose Sneakers: Are They Worth The Hype?

As soon as I purchased my Golden Goose sneakers I got so many messages asking if they are really worth the price tag. Which is totally a legit question because they are a splurge purchase and definitely the most I have ever spent on a sneaker. These Italian made sneakers quickly became an “it” shoe and the trend is not going anywhere any time soon!

If you are someone that wears sneakers on the regular, I don’t think you will regret it! The question, “are they worth it?” is subjective but in my opinion I think they are definitely worth the hype!

golden-goose-sneakersgolden-goose-sneakers

Below are some of the things I love about these popular sneakers and why!

1- They Are Unique – Whenever each sneaker is uniquely designed, only a certain amount of them are made so I feel like that makes the sneaker you buy sort of “one of a kind” and I love that!

2- Comfort Level– The comfort level of the superstar low star sneaker is a 10 out of 10! I wear them all of the time with my casual looks but I really put them to the test when traveling. I wear them so much whenever we travel and I cannot complain one bit about the comfort level. Before I purchased them I read a few reviews where people were saying that they felt they had to break theirs in first but honestly mine were comfortable right off the bat.

3- Built In Wedge Heel – There is a built in wedge heel that you can’t see from the outside. If there’s a sneakers that is going to make me look taller and my legs longer, count me in! I think this also plays a big part in the comfort as well.

4- The Worn In Look – I know the “dirty” sneaker look isn’t for everyone but I actually really love it. Every time I get a new pair of white sneakers I get so crazy about not getting them dirty and now that I am constantly chasing after little man and seems as he’s always stepping on my feet lol I can appreciate the “dirty” look charm of these shoes!

So obviously I am a huge fan of these Italian made Golden Goose sneakers but if its not within your budget, of course there are so many other styles that have been inspired by this popular shoe so I am linking some below for all budgets!
