Star Spangled S’Mores
I like festive but I also like easy so if you are anything like me, you’ll love this super quick and easy dessert for the 4th of July!
Gather your 19 marshmallows (you’ll need 5 blue, 6 red and 8 white), toothpicks, a paper towel, and the sprinkles
Skewer a marshmallow with a toothpick, quickly dip marshmallow into a small bowl of water, dab on the paper towel, hold over a bowl and cover completely with red sprinkles. Repeat with other colors
Let marshmallows dry for at least 15 minutes
Once dry slightly cover some kitchen scissors with butter and cut each marshmallow in half, washing the blades clean between colors
How To Prepare S’mores
Pour the 2 cups of chocolate chips evenly into baking dish
Place 9 blue halves in the top corner (cut side down)
Continue to place the “stripes” of red and white, 3 red marshmallow halves, 3 white, 3 red, 6 white, 6 red, and 6 white. You will have a couple of halves leftover
Bake in the oven for 7 to 9 minutes. Just until the tops of the marshmallows start to brown. Serve with graham crackers and enjoy! Best served warm. ?

Family Friendly Things To Do In Houston For The 4th Of July 2021
Typhoon Texas– 100% chance it’s going to be hot LOL. Even if it sprinkles a little like it’s supposed to it’s still gonna be hot! Cool off at Typhoon Texas in Katy with carnival-themed fun, live entertainment, and family-friendly contests. Firework show starts at 9:15pm. They will be doing fireworks on Friday, Saturday and Sunday!
Baytown Bicentennial Park– Baytown will be hosting their 4th of July celebration in the park on Saturday July 3rd. There will be music, a parade and fireworks. Check out their Facebook even page here.
Freedom Over Texas– I know so many of our friends are excited this is back this year! This annual, whole day festival is filled with fun for the whole family. Food, performances and a great firework show. Statement from their website, “Fireworks will reach 800 feet, almost doubling the height of the traditional show, for more to enjoy from further away.”
Kemah Boardwalk– Always a fun time for the kids but end the night on the 4th with their Star Spangled Sky firework show! Boardwalk is open until 11pm.
Lagoonfest– Ya’ll know I am a huge fan of this place LOL. It doesn’t look like they are having their own firework show but they are having country music performances on Friday and Saturday. This place is such a good time for the kids (and adults too!).
Pearland Independence Park– Celebration of Freedom will be happening from 6-10pm on the 4th. The event will feature live music from the variety band, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, on the H-E-B Entertainment Stage and a spectacular fireworks display.Event parking will be available at Pearland High School, 3775 S. Main Street.
Still smiling from our girl’s weekend trip to Nashville earlier this month! If you are looking for a fun, quick, weekend getaway with your crew, I highly recommend Nashville!
Where We Stayed:
We stayed at the Thompson Nashville which is between music row and downtown. This part of the city is called “The Gulch”. It was walking distance to a lot of restaurants as well as popular Nashville stores like Kittenish and Uncommon James! The rooms were spacious, the staff was so nice and the rooftop bar is amazing so that is a bonus!
How We Got Around:
We took a short Uber ride or walked to most of our destinations. Alice drove in from Memphis so she did drive us to drool over the beautiful homes of Nashville. And since we did have her car, we were able to take the short drive to the sweet town of Franklin to have breakfast on our last day, do some shopping and stopped at Leiper’s Fork Distillery to pick up some of the husband’s a bottle of Tennessee whiskey!
Where To Eat:
We got so many recommendations on where to eat and I am so sad we didn’t have time to hit up all of the restaurants! But let me tell you, we did not have one bad meal! I would highly recommend making reservations when you can.
5th & Taylor– holy smokes still thinking about my filet! This restaurant has such a cool vibe and everyone loved what they ordered! I highly suggest the beef filet and brussels sprouts!
Josephine – on Saturday morning we went shopping on 12 South where Draper James and a ton of other boutiques are located so we made reservations at Josephine. Brunch was delicious and so were the bloody mary’s
Marsh House– also in the Thompson Hotel and known for their seafood. Not all of us were seafood lovers so we passed on dinner here but we did pop in for some pre-dinner drinks!
Burger Republic*- we grabbed a bite here the day we landed because it was right across the street from our hotel, we were starving and it did not have a line LOL but goodness, we were shook at how good the food was! I got a salad but don’t be fooled, it was basically a blue cheese burger on a bed of lettuce lol and it was so dang good!
Other restaurants that were highly recommended but we didn’t have time to get to: 400 Degrees, The Southern, The Optimist, Butcher & Bee, Prince’s Hot Chicken, Geist and STK. Clearly there is no shortage of restaurant options in Nashville!
Where To Have A Drink:
Ummm, like the entire city is ready to party so we did not have trouble finding yummy cocktails LOL. Below were some of our favorite stops!
Hampton Social– was such a fun spot and I definitely recommend when in Nashville for a girl’s trip! Such pretty views and DJ had us non stop dancing! If you caught our stories the first night, you can see how much fun was being had!
L.A. Jackson– This rooftop bar is located at the Thompson Hotel! Also amazing views and delicious craft cocktails. The crowd was so fun!
Pinewood Social – this was a nice, laidback scene. We got to chat over drinks without having to yell over music LOL. You can even bowl here! Super fun to chill out with friends.
Miranda Lambert’s Casa Rosa – We stopped in because, duh! Miranda Lambert and everything is pink and decorated with flowers! There is also a restaurant upstairs.
But honestly anywhere on Broadway looks like it would be a good time! We got there at 10am thinking it would be a little slow but it was was poppin’! Bachelorette and Bachelor parties were already in full force and even the popular 3 story bar, Honky Tonk Central, was already packed! In addition to bars, there’s a ton of tourist attractions, restaurants and shopping on Broadway.
White Limozeen – This is an indoor/outdoor rooftop bar and restaurant located at the top of The Graduate Hotel. White Limozeen is named after Dolly Parton’s 1989 album and song. The Graduate Hotel Nashville has dedicated this rooftop pool and lounge to the country music icon. You can even find a larger than life Dolly Parton statue made out of pink chicken wire. Also poolside, you will find pink fringed umbrellas and oversized floral daybeds.
An important thing to note is that The Graduate Hotel and the rooftop space, White Limozeen, operate as different businesses so even if you are staying at the Graduate, you still need to make reservations to visit the pool and lounge area.
Our friend Alice was staying at The Graduate Hotel one more night so we were able to check out her room and the rest of the hotel. All of the interior decor is so fun! They describe their hotel decor as “a funky jewelry box” and that is exactly what it’s like! So playful and eclectic! I’m kind of sad we couldn’t stay the last night with Alice, haha! This is definitely another hotel option when in Nashville! The only thing I would say is that it is a little pricier than the Thompson Hotel and further out from all of the other restaurants and shopping.

Landon’s cute little stars and stripes tee actually comes as a shorts set for $13 but I ended up pairing it with his Cotton On denim shorts this day. I am wearing a small in this red, white and blue maxi dress from Buddy Love. I love that it’s festive for the upcoming holiday but also not super in your face 4th of July so I can still wear it all summer!
Does the fact that I cut this charcoal mask container to get every bit of use out of it tell you that I loved it? LOL! Today I am sharing my personal review of the Charcoal Peel Off Mask, some Navy Hair Care Products, Olaplex and Bille Razor!
Charcoal Peel Off Mask: The purifying peel off charcoal mask contains powerful antioxidants that protect the skin while balancing the skin for a cleaner and more beautiful complexion.
What It’s Supposed To Do: Activated charcoal draws out toxins, dirt, and impurities that clog pores for a renewed and clear looking complexion. This deep cleansing blackhead remover also effectively reduces signs of aging by tightening skin and smoothing out wrinkles.
How To Use: Using mask brush that is included, apply a thin layer of the product to clean skin. Wait 10-15 minutes for mask to dry and then peel off. Use warm water and towel to remove any excess product.
My Opinion: Don’t sleep on this mask! This product was recommended by so many of ya’ll! It made the Amazon 2020 Best of the Best list! This mask is so good! My skin instantly felt cleaner, tighter and my pores immediately looked minimized as soon as I peeled the mask off. I could not believe how good this $15 mask worked! I highly suggest trying it!
Olaplex No.5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner: A highly-moisturizing, reparative conditioner that protects and repairs damaged hair, split ends, and frizz by re-linking broken bonds.
What It’s Supposed To Do: Repairs hair and maintains bonds within the hair, adds shine, strengthens.
How To Use: After using No.4 Shampoo, apply a generous amount from scalp to tip. Leave on for three minutes, then rinse.
My Opinion: Ya’ll know I have been a Pantene girl since like my middle school days but after hearing so many great things about Olaplex, the influencer was influenced to buy this product! And….I’m already halfway through my second bottle! My hair feels healthier and thicker than ever!
Full disclosure: I still use my ACV concoction or a dry scalp shampoo at least once a week in addition to this because my skin and scalp are naturally so dry but this conditioner has truly done wonders for my hair otherwise!
Navy Hair Care Dry Texture Spray: “This spray creates thick, voluminous locks that are perfect for styling in just one spray. Sunflower seed oil helps keep your hair’s natural movement while preventing breakage and keeping hair healthy and full of body.”
What It’s Supposed To Do:“Pebble Beach will help you achieve the sexy, tousled look of your dreams with a light, flexible hold spray with long staying power.”
How To Use: Shake well. Hold can 8 to 10 inches away and spray in areas where you want definition and volume to complete your style. Best used on dry hair.
My Opinion: Umm, LOVE! This can actually lasted me like 7 months LOL. I don’t use it everyday but when I do, I only need the smallest amount to give my hair that super full look. I usually use it when my hair is in a half pony or full ponytail for full volume! This texture spray gives the right amount of grit while still keeping hair feeling soft and it smells really good!
Billie Razor: Monthly subscription service for razors.
The Deets: For $9 a month you get your refill razors shipped directly to your house. You can also change or delay your shipments at any time. This razor is the only razor with a charcoal bar to give you a deep clean moment with every swipe. The starter kit also includes a magnetic holder so that you can easily store on your shower wall.
My Opinion: Okay, this was another thing I was influenced to buy and once I received my starter kit and tried it for the first time, I was figured out what all the hype was about! It was a super close shave and the charcoal soap gives you a smooth clean feeling after your shave. BUT! Once I received my refill package a month later I was convinced that they changed something about the razor or the charcoal bar or something! It is not the same ya’ll! So I reached out and they said nothing was changed. I was like okay maybe I got a faulty package but then I received my next box and it’s literally not like my first LOL. I know they said nothing has changed but I don’t love it like I did the first time around. I do like the fact that this is an automatic subscription service and that it is so affordable but honestly I am not impressed with the quality any longer so I will be canceling my subscription. Please let me know which razors you use because your girl needs to find a new one stat!
Navy Hair Care Charcoal Revitalizing Hair Mask: Organic Black Clay exfoliates without stripping your hair while drawing out toxins, impurities, heavy metals and encouraging hair growth.
What It’s Supposed To Do: Deep cleanses hair into follicle, removing sebum, oil and product build up.
How To Use: Apply an ample amount of mask to clean damp hair. Work into scalp and comb down through hair to ends with fingers or a wide tooth comb. Leave on for 3-5 minutes then rinse thoroughly.
My Opinion: I love Navy Hair Care but this product is one I will not be repurchasing! Honestly, when I used it, it did make my hair feel “conditioned” but not any more than my normal, everyday conditioner does so for $47 I will not be repurchasing.
Again, I just like to say this on all of my “Love it or Leave it” blog posts: just because something does not work for me, does not mean it’s a bad product. Everyone’s skin type, hair texture and overall preferences are different so these posts are never intended to put out a negative review about a product. I just like sharing what works and what doesn’t work for me!

I was a little iffy on the paperbag pull on jeans but I am so glad I decided to try them because I love the way they fit and they are super soft too! I am wearing the size medium but probably could have done a small. I am wearing a small in the wide leg linen pants and the length is perfect for my 5’3″ self. Also they do not wrinkle easily which I love!

There are so many fun things to do in Houston with kids so I thought it would be a great idea to put a list together in case ya’ll are creating a summer bucket list too!
Houston Family Friendly Summer Bucket List
Lagoonfest Texas – Relaxing on white sand beaches and turquoise water and only a short drive away? Ummm, yes please! As you may have seen we already crossed this place off of our bucket list last week but there is a high chance we will be back! Although there are many activities for bigger kids and adults to do like the aqua park, huge water slide, kayaks and more I still found the majority of the lagoon super toddler friendly. You can read more about the place here.
Children’s Summer Series at Studio Movie Grill – Landon (& Brandon) love going to the movie theatre and they haven’t been since December 2019! We def have to take the whole fam. $6 a ticket gets you a movie, small drink and a popcorn!
Beach Day At Galveston – The kids could play on the beach all day long which means Mom and Dad can relax a bit so we are definitely taking a beach day soon
Astros Game – We gotta take sis to her first Astros game this summer
Bayou Wild Life Zoo– This is a short drive away in Alvin. Here, the kids will get to check out a petting zoo and take a safari ride to see the other animals.
The Crocodile Encounter – Okay, I am putting this on here because I know the kids would really enjoy this! Mama might be waiting in the car for everyone LOL. This place will get you up, close and personal with the crocodiles! There is also a zoo where the kids can see other animals.
Get A Special Sweet Treat at Brain Freeze – There are so many unique dessert places in the Houston area but if mama is going to see the crocodiles I get to pick the dessert spot LOL! I have been craving Brain Freeze since I last had it 2 years ago. They have delicious and Instagram worthy treats!
Houston Zoo – Sis loves animals so we will definitely be spending a day (or 2) at the zoo this summer!
Mini Staycation – Ya’ll know the Weaver family loves a good staycation! Our favorite local kid friendly hotels are The Woodlands Resort and Marriot Marquis Downtown.
Skating Rink Date – Ever since we saw Disney on Ice, the kids have been asking for skates and on top of that Landon’s neighborhood bestie has skates so he is constantly reminded that mama hasn’t bought him skates yet, haha.
Space Center Houston – I’ve lived in Houston for over 10 years and I have never been! The kids love playing with their space themed sensory bins so I know they will love this experience!
Berry Picking & Flower Picking – There are so many places to berry and flower pick in the surrounding Houston area. Here are a few: Dewberry, Froberg’s, Moorehead’s & P-6 Farms
Waterpark Day – We willingly partake in all of the water activities with the Houston heat! Here are a few nearby options for waterparks: SplashTown, Typhoon Texas, Schlitterbahn & Palm Beach at Moody Gardens
So this is our own personal, summer bucket list but there are so many things in Houston and the surrounding areas to do with kids so if you have something on your list I don’t have on mine, please share! I’d love to hear!
