Our sweet baby has definitely been the biggest blessing in our lives but as you know, most of life’s greatest changes will throw off our regular daily routine. I’m sure a lot of you can relate. Not complaining at all but it did take some time to adjust. I keep saying that we are so fortunate that he is on such a good schedule but even with this perfect baby of ours, we still have to prioritize all the things that need to get done when he goes down for a nap or goes to bed. Do I want to do laundry, clean the house, answer emails, get a workout in or just hang with the hubby while we watch shows and eat Taco Bell? Well, the latter was winning for about 3 weeks straight. 🙂
Finally, when even my comfy pajama pants were getting a little tight I quickly realized it was time to get back on my fitness routine!
Shop this look:
Outfit details: Stripe Tee: Nordstrom | Hoodie: Topshop | Leggings: Spanx | Shoes: Adidas | Backpack: similar from Nordstrom here and here | Sunglasses: Quay
First, let me share these 3 basic pieces in my closet that I have been wearing over and over again!
1- This basic long sleeve tee is the comfiest thing and can be worn so many different ways. I love wearing it layered under a hoodie for the perfect athleisure look but it also looks so cute with jeans, a moto jacket and flats or you can dress it up by tucking it into your jeans with a skinny belt and some heels! It’s an essential piece for any gals wardrobe. It comes in like 6 colors and is only $19! Size down because it runs big.
2- These Spanx faux leather leggings. LIFE.CHANGING. I have owned quite a few pairs of faux leather leggings in my life and these are the best! I mean, hello! Made by Spanx. Need I say more?! So flattering, so comfortable and the faux leather look just dresses up your leggings look a bit more.
3- Adidas Swift Run Sneakers– SO cute and SO comfortable. I actually snagged these during the Nordstrom Fall sale. They were so good I grabbed the white ones and the pink ones and then bought a pair for my sister! I suggest sizing down at least half a size in these. If you always wear a thinner sock you could probably size down a whole size.
Okay, so now that we talked about all the cute wardrobe essentials you need, I want to share how I am planning to keep up with a fitness routine with this new schedule of ours.
I’ve set realistic goals– Before baby I could easily get in 5, sometimes 6 workouts in a week. I would go straight to a class or the gym right after work, get home by 7pm and still manage to have time to do all the things. Even though I would love to get to the gym 5x a week I just don’t have time or the energy lol so I have set my goal for 3 times a week. If I get in any more than 3 that’s great but my hard goal is a good workout 3x a week.
Make a schedule– The days of leaving the house whenever I pleased and coming home at whatever time in the evening (well the hubby always knew I was of course, haha) are now over! Now, scheduling with the husband is so important. The days I go to the gym in the morning, he’s on duty to take baby to daycare. Also, putting gym time on my schedule is like crossing something off of my to do list so I determined to get it done.
Keeping my workouts to the morning– Prior to baby, if I missed my morning workout I would just go after work but now that I want to rush home after work and spend as much time with he family before bed time I don’t want to do that anymore. A few weeks ago I missed my morning workout and told myself that I would work out when baby went to bed. Did I? No way! Once I get home and settled I start to think of everything else there is to do and I know I won’t workout. I was even like that before baby. I either had to get up and workout in the AM or go straight to the gym after work or it wouldn’t happen. I’ve learned getting my workouts done in the morning are the only way it’s going to happen!
Eat healthier– Okay, so reality kicked in real quick. I meal prep yes but have I ever said no to a cookie? Probably not. The truth is, working out 5-6x a week I could treat myself with a cookie/cupcake/donut every now and then (like everyday 🙂 but when my 1.5 hours, 6x a week in the gym turns to 45 min-1 hour, 3x a week, something has got to give. I have committed to making healthier choices. I’d be lying if I said I’m giving up sweets but I have definitely promised myself that I won’t eat a cookie whenever it’s presented, lol. Back to the realistic goals I was talking about earlier.
How do you plan on keeping your fitness goals? I’d love to hear!
