Do Right, Not Easy

Happy hump day friends!

Today I am sharing this great graphic tank from the Rebel Disciple crew. Their brand mission is to inspire individuals to do the right thing. This topic is actually exactly what I wanted to chat with you about today so this outfit is kind of perfect.

So something has been weighing heavy on my heart the past couple of weeks. I won’t go into too much detail here because really that’s not important but just to give you a little background of what prompted this post is, a few weeks ago someone extremely close to me said some things about me that were so far from the truth. It’s not what they said about me that hurt because I know I didn’t do those things but it was the fact that this person who said it was someone I was extremely close to and someone I care a lot about.

Because I am an imperfect human, my immediate reaction was anger and a “how could she?” feeling. The more I thought about it, the more upset I became.

The easy thing to do would have been to stay angry at this person and never talk to them again…but let’s be honest that’s not the right thing to do.

I looked for inspirational quotes and scripture to calm my nerves and I came across the 5 below that really spoke to me. I thought I should share them with you in case you needed to hear them too. 🙂

“Just because someone else does the wrong thing we are not exempt from doing what’s right” – goodness this is so true. Do not let someone else’s wrong doing make you act against your character.

“What you think is right isn’t the same as knowing what is right” – no matter what the situation is always spend time thinking about where the other person is coming from. After this happened Brandon and I spent so much time trying to think about a possible situation where I may have said or done something to the point where it could have gotten twisted and this person thought I did this. Try to understand both sides so that you can have a rational conversation about it and hopefully come to an understanding.

“You will become the person you decide to be” – no matter how young or old we are, every action we take slowly defines the person we are. Make sure your reaction to something is how you would want to define your character.

And these two scriptures that need no explanation.

James 1:22 But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

James 2:8 If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing right.
