It is well with my soul.
These words are so strong and meaningful. What makes you feel this way? As we celebrate the Feast of Unleavened Bread we are reminded to ask ourselves, “what have I learned since last Passover?” and “what have I done to become a better Christian?”

Leaven is a food additive which causes many products such as bread to rise. During the Feast of Unleavened Bread it represents sin. We remove leaven from our homes and from our daily routines to show that we are “cleansing” both visible and hidden sins from our lives.
I have listened to sermons and read quite a bit on this topic but living through your first couple years of the Feast of Unleavened Bread really teaches you something. I mean let’s think about this, I eat a piece of wheat toast every morning, I keep baking soda in the house for so many reasons and the weeks leading up to Dad’s big 70th birthday celebration this past weekend all I could think about was how many red velvet cupcakes I was going to eat because weekend calories don’t count! 🙂 Even though I was being conscious as the feast began at sundown on Friday, I still went to grab a cupcake Saturday evening without even thinking about it. That’s how easily sin comes into our lives and how easily we can give into it.
I didn’t publish this post to tell you guys not to eat cupcakes (because that’s crazy!) but no matter how many times I hear scripture or read a verse depending on the day I hear/read it a different way. Does this happen to you too?
We’re humans guys, so even when you are living your life trying to do no wrong the opportunity to sin will always present itself. With God, we are much stronger than any evil.
“So, the Feast of Unleavened Bread is a time to concentrate on putting the righteousness of Jesus Christ (the true “bread of life”) into our lives (Galatians 2:20). Naturally, the more we do that, the more sin will be kept out. To overcome sin, we must “not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:21). In other words, the more Christ is living in us and the more we are living righteously, the less opportunity there will be for the leaven of sin to find a place in our lives. Living by—eating fully of—the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth is the key to purging out the “old leaven” of sin.”
