10 Father’s Day Gift Ideas

Lord knows my husband just wants another pair of Adidas pants but we just can’t resist getting him something just a little more special for Father’s Day LOL!

Today I am sharing 10 Father’s Day gift ideas you can buy for your Dad or for your husband from your little ones! Next week I will be sharing some DIY crafts for the little ones to make at home ๐Ÿ™‚

fathers day gift ideas

Burberry Touch Cologne – Okay I might be buying this more for me than him but it smells so dang good! LOL. If you are looking to get a new cologne for your S/O or for your Dad, this is a great scent for all the guys!

Sunglasses – I can’t remember if I shared this before but I bought Brandon these sunglasses off of Amazon last September and he loves them! He actually ended up losing them so he asked me to buy him another pair last month. They are really inexpensive but he likes them more than his Ray-Ban’s so I think they would make a really great gift idea! If your Dad or hubby loves to grill, you could make him a little gift basket of spices, maybe new grilling utensils and these sunglasses!

Personalized Metal Sign – Perfect for a man cave or garage!

Monogram Leather Toiletry Bag – I got Brandon something similar for our 3 year wedding anniversary which is the year of leather. It’s perfect for traveling or a gym bag but now he just keeps everything organized in it and uses it everyday.

Photo Book or Calendar – We made a photo book for my Dad from Shutterfly and he loves it! He got it a little early LOL but my Mom sent me the cutest video of him looking through the photo book ๐Ÿ™‚ Shutterfly has a ton of customized gifts!

Papa Tell Me Your Story – I shared this on stories yesterday. We bought this for Dad. It’s a fun book that is filled with questions for your Dad or Grandpa to answer and it helps him jot down pieces of his life and favorite memories. Something I think will make him smile while he reminisces on memories and then a book that we can cherish forever.

Masterpiece Photo – YA’LL!!! I know this is not for everyone but if you know Brandon personally, you know this is literally the most perfect gift for him!! LOL I cannot wait for him to get his!

BBQ Grill – Okay, I know absolutely nothing about grills and to be honest Brandon doesn’t either since I do 99.9% of the cooking in this family LOL. But I read a ton of reviews and Good Housekeeping also rated this one from Home Depot as one of their top 8. The reason I chose this one to share is not only because of the 1,600 5 star reviews on Home Depot but also because it seems super easy to use and let’s be honest. I’m probably gonna be the one using it LOL. So really for the price, it’s a great gift for the whole fam ๐Ÿ™‚

Neck Massager – OMG, I bought this neck massager like 6 months ago and it’s legit ya’ll! I bought it for myself but Brandon uses it all the time!

You Are My Superhero Frame – This is SO cute! Especially if your little one is as obsessed with superheros as Landon, this gift is so sweet.

I hope today’s post gave you a few ideas!

Makeup Primer Empties: Love It Or Leave It?

Trust me, I used to be a non believer when it came to makeup primer. I thought it was such an unnecessary step in my makeup routine! It wasn’t until I received a free primer in a gift with purchase deal, I was finally willing to try. Well, let me tell you. I am now a believer. Makeup primers help makeup go on smoother and stay on longer. Today I am sharing some primers I have personally used these past months and giving you my honest opinion on if they worked out for my skin type or not!

I always like to preface these type of posts reiterating that everyone’s skin type is different and just because a particular item did not work for me doesn’t mean it’s a bad product. I really do like all 3 of these brands but one of the primers just did not work for me!

My skin type: My face skin type is normal to dry. Pretty normal but I do get dry spots in certain areas and always worse in the colder seasons.

Makeup Primer Empties: Love It Or Leave It?

Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer: “An oil-free primer with a silky, airy texture that leaves a smooth canvas for makeup, while reducing the look of redness, pores, and wrinkles.

  • Paraben-free; sulfate-free; phthalate-free; oil-free; gluten-free; fragrance-free; synthetic dye-free
  • Cruelty-free
  • Vegan
  • Made in the USA

Finish: Formulated cream with a super lightweight, silky texture that helps create a smooth canvas without feeling oily.

How To Use: Apply 1/2 to 1 pump of Veil Mineral Primer to clean, moisturized skin prior to concealer, foundation and powder application. It works with any cream, liquid or powder foundation.

My Opinion: I don’t know what kind of fairy dust Hourglass is working with at headquarters but this will definitely be a repurchase for me! It makes my complexion look healthy and bright, whether I wear it alone or under foundation! Works extremely well on my dry spots too! After trying to figure out what makes this makeup primer so amazing I did read that the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer contains super-fine microspheric powder that creates this one-of-a-kind texture. I wouls highly recommend this one.

You can grab the mini size for $20 at Sephora to try out!

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r: “A shine-stopping, pore-diffusing primer that smooths the way for better foundation application and longer wear with an instant retouch effect.

  • Cruelty Free
  • No Parabens
  • No Phthalates

Finish: Lightweight with a matte finish.

How To Use: Take one pump, start at the center of your face and blend outward. Artistry tip: If you have dry skin, apply primer to just the areas of your face that tend to get oily.

My Opinion: Although this primer does very well at hiding pores and smoothing out skin texture, it was way too drying on my skin. Honestly, I should have shyed away from the product after reading it was a mattifying primer because with dry skin that usually does not go well! Even with the artistry tip of only putting this primer on your t-zone, this primer formula just did not work for me and seemed too drying. If you tend to get a little shine or your skin type is more on the oily side I think this would be a great primer to try! However, this not a product for us gals with skin on the drier side. Also, it does have a slight fragrance which did not bother me but if you are sensitive to smells just keep that in mind.

You can try out this primer in a mini size for $16 here.

Tula Face Filter Primer:TULA’s Face Filter Blurring & Moisturizing Primer will give you a fresh-faced, vacation-worthy glow. Apply after moisturizer and before foundation to smooth the look of redness and uneven skin tone.

  • Cruelty free
  • Formulated without Parabens, Sulfates, Phthalates, Mineral Oil & Petrolatum, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Releasing Preservatives, Triclosan, Retinol,ย  Gluten, Fragrance

How To Use: Apply 2-3 pumps of this moisturizing primer & massage thoroughly to release its special skin-blurring properties. Use as the last step in skincare routine/before applying foundation.

My Opinion: This moisturizing primer definitely deserves all the hype it gets! A lot of you have reached out to me to ask if Tula, in general, is worth the hype. Honestly, not all of the products have worked for me. Again, everyone’s skin type is different! But this is definitely a product I have repurchased multiple times! It’s basically a real life face filter LOL. It helps blur out any imperfections and redness but also contains superfoods like chia seeds and licorice that helps nourish skin and keep moisturized all day long. It’s slightly tinted as well so can be worn alone on your no makeup days! If ya’ll want to try it out you can grab it directly from the Tula website using my code ROSELYN for 15% off!

Let me know if you have tried any of these products or if you have a favorite filter that I didn’t list! I love trying out new ones ๐Ÿ™‚

Our Kitchen Remodel

All this house hunting talk made me realize I haven’t shown ya’ll our before and afters of our kitchen remodel! We had this our kitchen remodel done over a year ago and I loved how it turned out!

If I remember correctly the complete finish took about 2 months. We originally planned it on taking 3 weeks. We left for NY Fashion Week + a anniversary trip and hoped it would be almost done by the time we came back LOL but it ended up taking about a month and a half because after our initial “let’s just repaint the cabinets and replace counter tops” thoughts, we actually ended up tearing down a wall, replacing the entire downstairs flooring and completely replacing our old cabinets! We always wanted to remove this particular wall but we thought it was going to be too much work and really expensive but after having to remove the old cabinets anyway we were like “dooooo it!” ๐Ÿ™‚ So happy we did!

Below I am sharing before pictures, our initial plans, what our plans actually ended up being and then photos of the final finish!

Before Kitchen Remodel Photos

Our Initial Remodeling Plans

small kitchen renovation

Our kitchen space wasn’t very big so we just wanted it to feel more spacious. We planned on achieving that by brightening up the space with lighter colors and changing out the floor with a contrasting floor color that would really make the room feel bigger. We did just that but also finally getting to tear down that wall helped too LOL.

After Kitchen Remodel Photos

This is me sitting where the wall used to be. We torn down the top half but still able to add the counter space.

We got pretty lucky with our contractor. He is actually Brandon’s friend from highschool and they did an amazing job! Honestly even though going through a renovation can feel like a lifetime when you are living in the space at the same, a month and a half to complete the kitchen along with replace the entire flooring downstairs really was pretty quick!

Austin, Brandon’s friend, had a business partner and recently decided to start his own business so unfortunately I can’t link to a website or social media for him just yet but I promise as soon as I can I will share him with you!

We met him at his warehouse to pick out counter tops and flooring and if I would have done this post sooner I’m sure I would have remembered all of the names LOL but a year later I cannot. I’ll get with him to get the name color of our floors because ya’ll ask me every time I do a try on session!

What I can tell you is that we chose the quartz counter tops because it’s easier to clean and maintain versus marble.

We also picked out our exact mosaic tile back splash from Lowe’s so I linked it here for ya’ll. I also just saw this peel and stick option if you are looking for one!

Let me know if you guys have any questions. I will get our contractors info linked up as soon as I can!

6 Tips To Stay Positive During a Difficult Time

how to stay positive
  1. Wake Up And Remember What You Are Grateful For – Every morning I wake up, like before my feet even hit the ground, I thank God for 3 things. I know things aren’t the easiest right now but thanking God for things like my health, my family, the fact that I get to wake up to another day is a great reminder to myself for things I should be thankful for. I also started to make Landon do this. It always makes my day to hear what he says too. Yesterday he thanked God for the good guys ๐Ÿ™‚
  2. Do What Makes You Happy – Remember those busier times when we would say “I wish I had more time for that?”. This is the time ya’ll! Painting? Dancing? Learn a new language? Let’s do it! It’s sad for me to say but the thing I wish I had more time for back in the busier days is more quality time with my little family. I feel like we were all just moving so fast and Brandon and I both had so much going on that we were juggling family life. It truly does make me happy to have all this extra time together even though he does get on my nerves every once in a while, haha! Another thing that makes me happy is writing and blogging so being able to truly have time to write and communicate with you guys these days does make me happy ๐Ÿ™‚
  3. Get Moving – Our schedules are all off right now so even though I haven’t been getting up early to work out I am making it a priority to get my workout in each day. Getting moving doesn’t have to be a workout video. It can be a walk, bike ride or simply just playing outside with the kids!
  4. Avoid The Negativity– The best thing to do during a difficult time is to avoid any additional negativity. This situation is hard. The unknown is scary. When the stay at home orders all began we were glued to the news 24/7 and it was making me scared and worried. Now I have learned to tune in for the facts and updates and then move on with our day. I also make sure I am having frequent calls with people I love. Facetimes and zoom calls with family and friends who make you happy is a great way to stay positive!
  5. Let Yourself Have Your Moments – Cry if you need to. Yes, I know you may be like “why is she telling me to cry in her 6 ways to stay positive post?”. Because you need to allow yourself to actually feel whatever you are feeling. Don’t dwell on these negative and sad thoughts too much but you are allowed to have feelings. We are all experiencing some type of loss right now. It’s okay to be sad, angry, confused, etc. Be honest with yourself about how you feel. Have a good cry if you need to. Lord knows I have had a few ๐Ÿ™‚ Write down why you feel these certain things and then write down ways you can help yourself feel better about them. For example, I got super sad a few weeks ago because I miss my family like crazy. I know everyone is going through this right now but seeing people in the same cities with their parents and their parents being able to do drive by’s and visit from 6 feet away made me sad that I can’t even do that. I know it’s silly but it’s my truth lol. I allowed myself to be sad and then in return I decided the things I can do more to make this situation a little better is facetime them even more and also send hand written notes and crafts from Landon more often.
  6. Wherever You Are Be All There – I have this saying hanging in my office and honestly it’s such a great reminder. In life, you have control over your ability to be present in the moment, even if not control over everything. You have the moment. You canโ€™t regret the past or see the future. The only way to be positive is to be here. Whether that be on the floor of your living room playing with your littles or sitting in the driveway enjoying a cocktail with your husband. Savor that moment. Enjoy these moments.

I hope you guys like today’s simple tips on how to stay positive during this time. These are things that help me so much and I hope they can help you too!

7 Tips That Have Helped me Be More Patient While Homeschooling My Toddler

I have said this before and I’ll say it again because it hasn’t changed ๐Ÿ™‚ “My patience as a mother is completely different from my patience as a homeschool teacher”. I love my son and like any Mom with their kids, I think he is pretty dang genius ๐Ÿ™‚ so as his teacher I get frustrated when I see him not doing something correctly. Don’t get me wrong, if I see him struggling I am 110% on his side, helping him and guiding him. It’s when I know he knows how to do something because he’s done it 20x before but he is not doing it because he’s only halfway paying attention to his work and mostly looking at his Captain American shield across the room LOL. That’s when I get a tiny bit frustrated.

homeschooling-a-toddler

I never thought I could be the homeschooling kind. Like never. I always thought it was amazing when parents could homeschool their children but I thought to myself “I could never have the patience”.

But now, I keep going back and forth on whether or not I might homeschool Landon when the stay at home order is lifted. The whole learning from home thing is all so amazing but also stressful. I don’t know. I’ll let ya’ll know when I have two (maybe three) of them running around the house LOL.

No matter if you are homeschooling right now because you choose to or if you are forced to, here are 7 tips that help me be more patient.

7 TIPS THAT HAVE HELPED ME BE MORE PATIENT WHILE HOMESCHOOLING MY TODDLER

  1. Know Your Child’s Triggers and Your Own – Try out doing school time in the morning and then in the afternoon and see when your child is more attentive. If they are better at school work during the morning then make it the same time every morning. What is their learning style? Sit down and do paperwork or are they more visual and hands on? Landon is a little bit of both but I learned that paperwork and fun, visual, artwork type of assignments have to be completely separated. For example, I can’t have him doing tracing letters and then bust out an art project. It totally throws him off and he’ll just want to continue doing the more fun thing and can’t get back into the “other” thing that he doesn’t like as much. We will usually do all of his writing/math exercises first and then move onto crafts. Use the method of trial and error until you find what works for you guys and stick with it.
  2. Forget Perfection – Like I said, my child is a genius ๐Ÿ™‚ lol. So when he thrives one week with an alphabet letter and has a little trouble the next, I used to get frustrated and think “you totally know this” but the truth is we all have good days and we all have off days, so do the kids. Unrealistic expectations cause unneeded stress. Allow permission for good to be enough.
  3. Be Consistent – Landon thrives on having a schedule. He knows when to expect breakfast, he knows when its nap time and he knows when its play time so if he has his little heart set on play time and I’m like “let’s do school work!”, you better believe he’s gonna rebell. I’m literally laughing out loud right now as I type this because I am being so serious. When he knows that after breakfast we are going to do paperwork he is (for the most part) so well behaved. If I try to throw it in another time and he doesn’t expect it, I better be prepared of the longest hour of learning time with a toddler who is not happy.
  4. Do The Work With Them – A few times I sat and watched Landon trace letters and it kind of was making me crazy every time he would make one tiny mistake. I didn’t say anything of course but by me watching him it made me notice every tiny thing. I’m crazy I know. Have you ever watched a nail technician paint every single one of your nails and notice everything that she might be doing wrong? But then at the end she fixes whatever you thought was wrong without you even telling her and it looks perfect? It’s kind of like that. When Landon is coloring or tracing now, I typically do the work with him. 1) It allows him to learn from how I do it 2) He feels like it’s something more fun because we are all doing it and I’m not just watching him like the Mrs. Mama teacher I am lol and 3) By me looking at his end result and not every move, I am actually able to appreciate it more. Even some days I think he did an okay job on something, the next day I look at it and I’m like, “wow that is actually really great!”
  5. Limit Your Sit Down Learning Time– After researching homeschooling more and more it’s actually quite interesting the recommended number of hours they say kids should actually be sitting down and learning. It’s different for every age but I’ll tell you, no age says you should be learning in classes 7+ hours a day. As I mentioned in this post, your day to day activities are filled with learning opportunities for kids so there is no need to stress yourself or your child out by sitting at a desk all day. We do 1-2 hours or school work a day and school work activities vary each day to keep Landon interested.
  6. Take Breaks If You Need To – I typically try to do about 20-30 minutes of school work before I ask Landon if he needs a break. If he seems to be enjoying the activity we are doing I won’t ask and sometimes before the 20 minutes is up he will tell me he needs a break. A break from work or mama, I don’t know but I’ll let him he can do whatever he wants to for 5 minutes. I’ll always set a timer so he knows when it goes off, it’s time to get back to it.
  7. Set A Timer– Speaking of setting a timer I’m not sure why Landon has no problem listening to a timer but argues with me “5 more minutes” every time I tell him the time is up LOL. Whatever play time or task you have given your child with a required time, set a timer to avoid any arguments. Works for us every time!

Well that’s all I got today folks! Again, not a pro homeschool teacher AT ALL but I am learning what works for us by trial and error each day so I hope this helps you out a little!

Z Supply Leopard Print Swing Tank | If you can’t tell by my wallpaper, I am a big fan of this print LOL. I am also a big fan of this brand. Great quality basics. I sized up to a large in this top because it’s supposed to be a cropped styled and I didn’t want it to be too short. I love how the large fits on me. It also comes in a short sleeve style and a dress!

Cuffed Denim Shorts | I really wanted these shorts because I currently do not have any cuffed denim shorts. All of mine are cut off so I like how these are different plus the medium wash has a hint of gray in it and I love the look! Wearing a medium here. If you have thicker thighs I would size up. The high waist fits fine but I think I would like the large more for my legs.

Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

Thanks to you guys I am rounding up some amazing and thoughtful gift ideas for Mother’s Day 2020. I really love that so many of you were on the same page this year on what you were asking for and I am so happy because some of these things are exactly what I am sending my Mom.

8 Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

  1. Personalized Jewelry – I wear my Mama necklace almost everyday. You can also order the Mama Necklace in lower case here. This necklace is such great quality and is such a meaningful gift. I also really love this initial necklace if you have multiple kids and these initial earrings are on my personal wish list!
  2. Name Book Stacks – Ya’ll, how cute are these?! These would make the perfect decor for any room and such a meaningful gift.
  3. At Home Spa Items – If you know me, you know I love putting together a themed gift basket. Send your mama items so she can have an at home spa day. A tip that I like to use when putting together a gift basket is concentrating on a theme so it doesn’t look like you just put a bunch of random things in there. The theme above is “Mama, you are cooler than a cucumber” ๐Ÿ™‚ Put all things cucumber in her gift box!
  4. Gift Cards – If you don’t have time to put together the at home spa basket, gift cards are always a good idea so your mama (or wife!) can pick up products she loves!
  5. Graphic Tees – Most of us are looking for comfy but cute tees to wear these days and Untamed Faith Boutique has such cute Mom ones!
  6. Personalized Mother’s Day Box – Definitely purchased this for my Mom! Also myself LOL because I want the same mug ๐Ÿ™‚
  7. Coffee Mugs – Coffee mugs are always a hit with me, hint hint! This Home Is Where Mom Is coffee mug and this face mug is so freakin’ cute!
  8. Barefoot Dreams – Basically anything Barefoot Dreams can be given for any holiday, birthday, etc. It’s so dang good! The blankets are my absolute favorite but since my Mom already has a million blankets, she’d really love this cardigan!

Okay, I know I said 8 Mother’s Day Gift Ideas but this is a bonus gift idea if you have kid’s and want to send something to their Grandma! Landon made these for his Lola and Coco. If you have a toddler this is a fun craft idea that they can actually help with LOL. The flower one is fun because you can ask your toddler to describe their Grandma and write the words down for them. I won’t show you all the words because his Coco might see this post but they are good ya’ll LOL. Such a special gift!

The “Love You To Pieces” card is really adorable too. I saved the scraps from Landon’s scissor time which turned into let’s rip up some paper time LOL and had him glue them on the card and inside the heart drawing. Lola is going to love it!
