2 Summer Dresses From JCPenney

My Notox Face Lift Experience At Switch 2 Pure

Ya’ll were making me feel like Cindy Crawford’s no aging self the other week when I told you I was 37! LOL! It honestly made me feel really good and less worried about my wrinkles so THANK YOU. We are truly our own worse critics.

I had been going back and forth for like two years about getting botox. Brandon isn’t actually for it so although I know he would support me in any decision I decided on, i started to research some other ways to keep myself looking young and then I remembered that a Houston Wellery and Spa offered something called a Notox Face Lift. I have visited the Switch 2 Pure spa before for the “You Go High, I’ll Glow Go” facial and it was Ah-mazing!! I figured the Notox facial was worth a shot!

5 Most Asked Questions From Instagram Stories:

Does it hurt? – No, not at all! There are no needles or injections so the facial is totally painless. I feel like I got this question a lot because I was talking about this facial in the same conversation as botox so many people assumed there were needles involved. No pain at all!
How much does it cost?- One facial cost around $325 but definitely call to book your appointment (this one or any service!) then mention my name for a discount.
Is there any down time?- Nope! It is a non-invasive facial so no redness or anything afterwards.
Why did I choose to try the Notox Face Lift?- Like I mentioned I had been going back and forth on botox but instead of immediately going that route I decided I wanted to try some other things that would help treat areas I need help with: fine lines, wrinkles, firmness. The more I read about the Notox facial, the more I learned this facial is geared towards women who are around my age who were concerned about wrinkles, aging, plumpness of skin, etc. It sounded exactly like what I had been looking for so I decided to give it a go!
How many treatments do you need to get before you see a difference?- I feel like this answer will be different for anyone. Switch 2 Pure recommends 3-4 Notox facials before you start to see a difference but honestly I already saw a difference after one!

I also do need to point out that I have worked with Switch 2 Pure in the past in exchange for treatments and an honest review. I will 100% be going back for more treatments on my own dime. Totally worth the money and I love that everything is organic and about clean beauty and skincare.

Okay so back to the Notox Face Lift. Like I mentioned, I wanted to try it because it was basically everything I wanted botox to do for me but no chemicals so I figured it was worth a try.

I’m not a skincare expert, I just know what I want my skin to feel and look like 🙂 and boy do I give this facial an A+++!!

I really wish I would have gotten a no makeup before photo but I had a photoshoot that morning before my appointment so that didn’t happen. Next time I will remember to snap one. On the right is a no filter photo right after my facial.

Teacher Appreciation Gift Ideas

I enjoyed chatting with ya’ll about teacher gifts! Teachers are truly angels on earth and deserve all the things to be celebrated! I loved getting gift ideas from you the past few weeks and it was so sweet seeing many of you use our gift ideas as well!

I’ve saved everything to Instagram highlights but uploading this permanent blog post so that you could reference the gifts we gave and I am going to include the top recommended gifts to give from many of you who are teachers!

The list above includes the most recommended Teacher’s gifts to give. My love language is gift giving so ya’ll know I love to go all out on gifts but just a friendly reminder that you don’t have to include all of these gifts or even spend a lot of money! If you just want to do one or two things I would highly suggest asking your child to write a sweet note for their teacher and then maybe include a gift card. These teachers work so hard for our kids and many times they are buying extra supplies out of their own pocket!

IF you can, including some of their favorite things in the gift is a nice gesture too. It could be a candle, their favorite candy, etc. Most schools already have a “Teachers Favorite Things” list but if you are wanting to make your own for your child’s teacher to fill out, here some examples from Pinterest.

Last week for Teacher Appreciation week we tried to gift a little something to the Teacher’s and staff for each day the kids were at school. First day we brought Starbucks coffee and sweets for everyone. The second day we put together “snack baskets” for the kids classrooms. This included individually wrapped snacks like chips, chocolate, jerky, trail mix, granola bars, gum and some other things. Basically everything in the snack aisle that was individually wrapped and I could fit in the basket LOL. On the third and last day of the school week the kid’s brought each of their teacher’s gift bags filled with notepads, flair pens, earrings, , Tarte Makeup and Skincare, chocolates and gift cards.

Just a friendly reminder to spoil our teachers friends! It doesn’t have to be teacher appreciation week!

Monday Casual: Blazer And Black Denim Outfit

Happy Monday friends! The to-do list is a mile long today so getting dressed in a cute outfit always motivates me to get things done!! Anybody else?! 🙂

Coffee also helps so I am going to meet my girlfriend for a coffee date at a “new to me” spot in the Heights area. I am quickly checking off so many of the coffee shops I had on my list. If you haven’t read that blog post and love coffee, you can check it out here!

I know I wear the Spanx denim and Nike’s like all the time LOL but so glad I finally got to wear my new teal blazer. I love a good blazer and adore the summer-y color and oversized fit on this one!

Walmart + Haul: 2 Easy To Make Filpino recipes Your Family Will Love

Chicken adobo recipe

Chicken Adobo was always a favorite in our house growing up and I love that now it’s a favorite of Brandon’s and the kids! Total bonus that it is super easy to make and only 6 ingredients (7 if you include the cup of water that you need!)

Ingredients for chicken adobo

8 bone in chicken thighs
1 cup soy sauce
1 cup white vinegar
1 cup water
10 black peppercorns
4 bay leaves
2 cups Calrose rice

How to Cook Chicken Adobo

Place all ingredients (except for rice) in a large cooking pot
Bring liquid to a bowl then lower to medium heat and cover for 40 minutes
After 40 minutes uncover, stir/flip chicken and let cook for another 15th minutes

And that’s it! We eat ours over the Calrose white rice 🙂

Filipino leche flan recipe

This was a dessert that we could always guarantee would be at our gatherings growing up. I used to think it was so hard to make but it was probably because my Mom alays made a dozen of them at a time and I only make one LOL. Here are the 5 ingredients you need to make Leche Flan.

Ingredients for leche flan

12 egg yolks
1 can condensed milk (14 oz)
1 can evaporated milk (12 oz)
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons water

how To Make Leche Flan

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Whisk egg yolks gently, then add condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract and stir until combined. *try to whisk gently to avoid getting bubbles in your flan
Add the sugar and water to a pot over medium heat and cook until sugar dissolves. Lower heat and cook until completely melted. Pour melted sugar into a round baking pan and tilt pan around until evenly coated. Let set for a few minutes until it hardens.
Pour the milk and egg mixture through a metal strainer into the pan, on top of the sugar mixture
Take a baking tray that is large enough to fit around your flan cake pan and place the pan inside. Pour about an inch of boiling water into the large, outside tray. Put the tray (with the pan inside) into the oven for about 50 minutes. To ensure it is fully baked, test to see if toothpick comes out clean.
Remove the pan from the water bath and let cool. Refrigerate until cold. Do not rush the cooling process! If it it’s too warm, it might fall apart. Once cold, run a knife around the edges and gently flip leche flan onto your serving plate

We like to add a caramel syrup or even strawberry syrup to ours these days but I wanted to include the authentic Filipino flan recipe and then you can add whatever you like!

MYX Blend Bar

A few weeks ago Cindy and I had a little girls day and visited MYX Blend Bar in Rice Village. If you aren’t familiar with MYX it is a really cool spot where you can create your very own lipstick or lip gloss. You customize your own blend down to the shade, fragrance and mold! You even name it yourself! Whether it’s a shade that you loved in the past and had been discontinued or maybe something you want to create from scratch, a MYXologist is there to walk you through the whole process.

Doesn’t this place sound so fun?! I can attest it definitely is! It’s the perfect stop for a girls day or night out. I think it would also be a great idea for a bach party stop so your girls can create their own lipstick shade!

When Cindy and I visited a few weeks ago we already knew what we wanted. Cindy was looking for the perfect, everyday mauve-y gloss and I wanted the perfect red lip for summer. Something super hydrating between a matte and gloss and something that would stay on throughout the day 🙂 The MYXologist was like “you are the perfect candidate for MYX Blend Bar.” Basically because I wanted all of the things LOL.

I love a red lip but the ones I have found and loved either dry my lips out halfway through the day and the hydrating ones are too “glossy” for my liking. Here is the shade I ended up with and I love!

What To Expect During Your MYX Blend Bar Experience

The MYXologist will ask if you have an idea of what you want. They ask questions like what is your fav shade right now, do you like matte, glossy, do you tend to have more dry lips?, etc. From there they will create a palette of custom shades to compliment your skin tone. After they mix all of the shades together, they will ask if you want a gloss or lipstick and from whatever you choose, they will add in the formula. They will mix everything up and then you can try on the shade and see if you want to make any changes.

Once you have fallen in love with your new custom color, you choose a scent and then they make the lipstick mold for you! I believe you can choose between 2 different molds but we both chose the MYX mold because of the pointed tip that can act like a lip liner! Last step is choosing a fun lipstick shade name. I chose Roselyn Red and Cindy named hers Cinderella because she’s Cindy and she’s a princess, duh!

10 Houston Coffee Shops I Need To Try This Summer

Houston has so many yummy restaurants, fun bars and delicious coffee shops! I have so many Houston favorites so every time I am in the city for work I feel like I always just gravitate towards places I already know and love! I really need to branch out LOL! So today I am listing 10 coffee shops I currently have on my radar. Putting it out there into the universe so that I actually do it, haha! Maybe you’ll join me in trying out some new coffee shops too!

10 Houston Coffee Shops To Try

Giant Leap Coffee – Uptown Park – I see and smell this coffee shop every time I am shooting in the area but I never have time to go in. I will make sure I make time for it the next time I am in the uptown park area.
Retrospect Coffee – The owner turned one of Houston’s first gas stations into a coffee shop! I think that is so neat!
Through Good Coffee – Houston Heights – Through Good Coffee serves locally sourced coffee and tea. I loved reading the owners story regarding the coffee shops location. “I purchased the land at twenty four years old, forty years ago. The building known as ThroughGood Coffee today has been the place of multiple labors of love since it was originally constructed. Originally built as a daycare center for economically disadvantaged families. It has always been a place of inspiration, innovation and love.”
South Side Espresso – Westheimer – I have gone to Uchi many times but never realized there was a coffee shop right behind it. Apparently you must try a pastry while you are there enjoying a cup of coffee!
Doshi House – Third Ward – So this place was recommended as a yummy vegan spot but I looked at the menu and the coffee selection looks amazing!
Clutch City Coffee – I drove by this coffee shop a few weeks ago and I had no idea it existed! Apparently it’s a “drive through only” coffee shop so I will definitely be driving through there soon and will let ya’ll know what I think!
Ten Fold Coffee – Okay, I cheated! I had this blog post in draft and met my girlfriends for coffee here last week so I get to check this one off of the list 🙂 I highly recommend this place. The coffee was good! I had the vanilla latte with macadamia milk creamer. Delish!
Agora – Montrose- Coffee and wine spot? Yes please! Agora offers gourmet coffees, imported ales & beers, and a wide selection of wines in a very warm, old-world, artistically inspiring atmosphere. Agora also offers, many european delicacies, including Greek yogurts and cheeses.
Fix Coffee Bar – Montrose – I saw someone share a latte that had rainbow sprinkles on the rim of the mug and I instantly knew I had to add this to my list of coffee shops to visit!
Amsterdam Coffee – Houston Heights- Yes, cannabis is also on the menu if you are wondering! Amsterdam Co. CoffeeHouse is a very unique 1900’s Dutch Colonial located at 807 W. 19th St. Your local neighborhood European style CoffeeHouse & CBD Dispensary. Amsterdam CoffeeHouse aims to educate its patrons on cannabis and it’s many benefits, as well as serve “exotic,” specialty coffees.

Beauty Empties: Love It Or Leave It

I tried out so many “new to me” products these past two months and today I am sharing if I think they are worth repurchasing or not!

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask: A Lip Sleeping Mask with a softening balm texture that closely adheres to lips for quick absorption. Exclusive Moisture Wrap™ technology boasts hyaluronic acid and minerals to form a protective film over the lips to lock in moisture and active ingredients.

What It’s Supposed To Do: Helps reduce flakiness so you can wake up to lips that feel refreshed, supple, and soft to the touch. Also suppose to help with fine lines.

How To Use: Using applicator, apply generously to the lips in the evening and leave on overnight. Gently wipe off or cleanse in the morning.

My Opinion: Not worth the $22! Did it make my lips feel soft? Yes. Did it moisturize and help with dryness? Yes. BUT no more than my tube of Aquaphor does and I can grab 2 tubes for under $8! I definitely fell into the hype on this one and I’m so bummed it didn’t work for me.

Tula Firming + Hydrating Moisturizer: Lightweight daily moisturizer with probiotic extracts, prebiotics and smart peptides to promote skin firmness & elasticity to plump the look of skin.

What It’s Supposed To Do: Help restore skin radiance, improve the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles, target signs of premature skin aging while it nourishes and plumps skin.

How To Use: Apply daily to clean skin, or after serum. Use AM & PM.

My Opinion: There are quite a few Tula Skincare products that I use and LOVE! But this daily moisturizer is not going to be a favorite of mine. I do like that this moisturizer feels super lightweight for AM wear but it’s not moisturizing enough for me. If you have normal to oily skin this may be a better option for you. I constantly felt like my face looked and felt dry halfway through the day when I used this. Not going to be a repurchase for me.

Kristin Ess Dry Shampoo: A vitamin c enriched dry shampoo that absorbs oil and helps extends life of styled hair.

How To Use: Apply to dirty or clean hair at the root. Gently tap powder into hair to make any visible powder disappear.

My Opinion: I wanted to like this so bad because so many of ya’ll love it! Unfortunately, I feel like I had to use so much product to feel like it “worked” for me. Once I sprayed a generous amount in my hair, I felt like it worked great but then I was using so much product and used up the bottle so quickly! I love that it is a drugstore brand so it’s convenient to grab a bottle but for the price, I will be going back to my tried and true OGX $7 dry shampoo.

Tula Wrinkle Treatment Drops: Retinol alternative serum

What It’s Supposed To Do: Clean, retinol-free serum that helps minimize the look of wrinkles & treats signs of premature aging, helps firm the look of skin, provides antioxidant protection, improves skin smoothness and helps firm the look of skin.

How To Use: Dispense 2-3 drops & massage onto dry, clean face. Use AM & PM.

My Opinion: 100% I will be purchasing this again. Within the first week I could already feel a difference in my skin elasticity and fine lines. As ya’ll know retinol can leave the skin feeling dry but this retinol alternative product was ultra nourishing and did not dry out my skin at all but still doing the job of a retinol serum.

I hope this post was helpful for those of you who have been on the fence about trying these products! Just a friendly reminder that just because some products didn’t work for me doesn’t mean they aren’t great products! Let me know if you have any questions!
