Fall/Winter

A Letter To My Brothers

Hi loves! It’s currently Wednesday here in New Zealand so I didn’t want to say Happy Wednesday and completely throw you off!

I am happy to say that we arrived in Auckland yesterday safely and so far handling the jet lag quite well! However, I am extremely heart broken by the news the customs security officer shared with us not even 30 minutes after we landed. As soon as he took a look at our passports he started telling us about what took place in Las Vegas. Obviously we had not idea because we were on at flight but I mean ugh, just another reminder of what could happen in a matter of hours. So many lives taken too soon and so many injured. Our hearts and prayers go out to everyone affected. Let’s donate to the families if you can, donate blood, whatever we can do let’s do that. I know we sometimes feel so helpless in situations like this asking ourselves what can we do when something so much bigger than us happens? Even the smallest gesture we can do makes a difference.

I actually had this blog post on my schedule for months but I am just now getting around to sharing it with you because I finally sent the letter to my brothers and gave them time to read it. Also, this week seems like the perfect time to share it.

A few weeks ago I sat down to write both of my brothers a letter. Why? Brandon asks 🙂 Simply because I wanted to be sure I let them know how much they mean to me and how much I appreciate them. If you know me, you already know that I am extremely close to my family. Not a week goes by that I don’t talk to my parents and my family is constantly texting each other. Every time I see my brothers we tell each other “I love you” but with them being in California and life getting so busy we still don’t talk as much as we would like to. I mean, I know that they know how much I love them but still I felt like it wasn’t enough. Cheesy, I know but I’m weird like that. 🙂

So I decided to write them a letter and point out a few of the many things that I oh so appreciate about them. I won’t share the letters but I do want to share a few things about them. My older brother Kris, who I call Kuya. He always is the first one to support your goals and dreams. He was strict growing up 🙂 but you always knew he would have your back. A few years ago him and his family moved back from Northern California and into the same town as my parents. I would always worry about being so far away from my parents but now with him there I know he always goes above and beyond for every birthday, anniversary and every other occasion to celebrate my parents when I cannot physically be there. Without skipping a beat he will do anything for Mom and Dad, actually he would do that for anyone really. He has a tough exterior but a very generous heart 🙂 And my middle brother, Manny, who I call Diko. He is so loving and kind. He is such a jokester so we always give him a hard time. Obviously we are just regular folk, don’t have all the money in the world but I will never forget the time he offered to take our entire family and my sister in laws family on a Disneyland weekend vacation. You guys, no joke it was like 45 of us! He flew me home, he paid for everyone’s stay, meals, etc. without a second thought just because he wanted all of us to go on this trip together. And then a few weeks later my then fiancée and I broke up and I decided to move back to California. As soon as my family got word of it, my Diko text me and said he purchased me a one way ticket back home.

Family is everything. Not one day goes by that I don’t appreciate my brothers. They are so different but so equally amazing in their own ways. I appreciate them so much. Maybe I got really lucky because I’m the little sis and they always took care of me but I appreciate and remember.every.single.generous.gesture.

Life gets hectic and moments like I mentioned above happen so quickly. I just wanted them to know that moments like that and every kind gesture from them does not get forgotten. I love you so much brothers!

With a crazy world that we live in today I think it’s important to express our appreciation and love to one another.

Who will you write a letter to today?

xo, Roselyn
