“I wish that every time I “liked” something on Instagram it would appear in my closet!”
So I was supposed to be browsing online for some bed set inspiration because it’s really something that we need, naturallyI ended up with everything but that in my carts. Yes, I said cartS! 🙂 So I bring you thestylelynnkind.com’s first of many Wednesday Wish List!
I am a sucker for graphic tees and walking by this one at Target made me giggle so I just had to buy it!
Did everyone have a lovely weekend? I hope so! Houston is starting to feel like Fall! I love this weather, but being from California, this is as cold as I like it! I swear today I felt like I needed a full on coat. #dontjudge 🙂
Friday I got to catch up with one of my best girlfriends that I haven’t seen in FOREVER (like 2 and a half weeks) but it really did seem like forever! Saturday Hubby and I played catch up on all of our errands that were put off when we were living the island life and then we had a post Feast potluck after church service that was delicious as always! Sunday I met up with a blogger babe, The FITista, who I will be working with real soon! I am SO excited you guys!! If you aren’t already following her blog and instagram account start today! She is so motivating and her positive energy is really contagious! Let’s be honest guys, life is too short for negative vibes so as Michelle Tanner would say “cut it out!”.
Happy Tuesday lovelies! As always, thank you for stopping by!
Funny story. On this day we walked out to our rental car to head out for a day of shopping and our car battery was dead. While we waited for the guy to come back with jumper cables I asked Brandon to snap some pics of me. LOL. Thank goodness he loves me!
DAY FOUR: A DAY OF SUN AND SHOPPING
After we soaked up the sun as much as we (Brandon) could handle for the day we headed to Suva, the capital, to have lunch and do some shopping! Suva was about 2 hours from Pacific Harbor so along the way we drove by more sweet villages, schools and all the friendly locals strutting along Queens road waving hello!
We ran into someone who told us he was the City Councilman. He took us around to different “must see” shops. Basically, like a personal shopper, haha! He let us know what shops put the money back into the villages so that was nice to know and gave us another reason to want to shop. Although, let’s be real I don’t need another reason 🙂
The day my dreams of snorkeling in crystal clear water came true! Seriously, the water was so clear it was almost like you could drink it. Don’t worry, I didn’t. We rode with our church fam to Denarau Marina where a Hydroplane boat awaited us. The boat we took was a one of a kind design with a unique hyrdofoil system that literally makes the boat fly on the water surface. Not to mention the neat glass bottom design that allowed us to view sea life during the day and also the night on the way back to Vita Levu. If you are interested in booking this for your next vacay you can read more here.
On the boat ride we got to enjoy the amazing view that consisted of other islands (include Castaway Island), beautiful waters and some other “boats” that kind of made me want to live a yacht life!
Once we got to the private island we enjoyed lunch with a sweet couple from Kentucky (also from our breathen) and then snorkeled the afternoon away with our Fijian family.
Okay, now go back to the close up of the water. I told you it was drinkable 🙂
I think it is safe to say that after day five my feelings about wanting to relocate to Fiji were stronger than ever! I loved every minute we were there and I remembering how much as I write here 🙂 Thanks for letting me sharing these beautiful days with you! More to come!

Fiji has always been on my bucket list. Basically every paradise island is on my list LOL. So when Pacific Harbor was listed as one of this years Feast sites my husband knew what my choice would be!
DAY TWO:
As our internal clocks were waaaayy off I woke up at 2:30am that morning. Thank you again to my sweet friends and family that kept me occupied via text before Brandon woke up at 4:30. This became to be our normal routine. When my husband got up at 4:30 we chatted and laughed about how we thought the resort really should have things to do at 4am for people like us! Then we got dressed and walked around the resort again taking in all of the beauty catching our first Fiji sunrise.
After we walked around the resort and strolled along the beach we came back to have breakfast with the most amazing view. Then it was time to change into our swimsuits to relax at the pool for a few hours. We actually both made spa appointments for this day, but I ended up calling to cancel because I didn’t want to leave my pool chair. I was determined to come back with a Fijian glow! My husband went for a massage and said it was the best massage he has ever gotten.
The afternoon of our second day in Fiji was the day we were able to enjoy our first church service. It was so convenient to get to service everyday as it was held in this newly built wedding chapel at the resort.
Right after service we enjoyed a yummy Mediterranean dinner prepared by the resort staff. My ultimate favorite was the Kokoda which some people refer to as “Fijian ceviche”. It’s local raw fish “cooked’ by being marinated in lemon and lime juice. There’s coconut cream, cilantro, green pepper and a few spices. People make it differently, but let me tell you I will definitely be trying this recipe at home!
DAY THREE:
Awake at 2:30am 🙂 I guess Brandon heard me trying to be sneaky with the plastic wrappers on my strawberry wafers that he woke up laughing. That morning we went to the gym for the first time.
On the third evening the Fijian breathen hosted a dinner and prepared the most delicious authentic Fijian meal. I mean, I know I’m not an expert on Fijian delicacy, but I will say what they made was amazing! We learned that many dishes can and are cooked in a lovo. I’m not sure I can try this at home. Brandon is very particular about his yard and I’m not sure would appreciate me digging a pit. 🙂
So it is safe to say that on day two and three we were still loving island life and the Fijians you guys…they were literally the nicest people I have ever met. I’m not even exaggerating. The locals shopping a store, the people walking down the street, not to mention again the lady that opened the door for me at the gas station. Everyone said hello (Bula) to you and naturally you begin saying it to every single person you see. They were all just so kind and it was definitely refreshing.
So can we all just take a moment when sitting in traffic next time and instead of getting angry and giving someone the bird for who knows what reason just take a deep breath wave and say HI! 🙂 The other person might look at your like you’re crazy because what?… Because we aren’t used to that type of random acts of kindness. 🙁 Let’s all make someone smile today. It doesn’t have to cost us money. Sometimes even a smile from a stranger can totally change someones day. Let’s do it!
Again, thank you for taking the time to stop by and reading my blog! I truly appreciate it.

BULA!
Just a few Fiji facts:
Fiji is made up of 333 islands that rest in the South Pacific.
Capital is Suva.
Languages spoken are English, Fijian and Hindi.
Currency is the Fijian dollar.
The main island is Vita Levu which is where the capital, Suva, is located and where our unforgettable vacation took place.
We left Houston Friday evening with a 3 hour flight to LAX. Once we got to LAX we hopped off of Southwest, claimed our baggage and checked into Fiji Airways. It took us a little over 12 hours to get from LA to Nadi.
Once we arrived in Fiji we picked up our rental car and headed to Pacific Harbor where our resort was located. It was about a 2 1/2 hour drive from the airport. The drive was full of the most beautiful greenery and so many sweet little villages every few miles. Not to mention you are riding along the coast where the ocean hues go from dark blue to turquoise to crystal clear. I love when you can see all of the different colors sitting side by side. It always amazes me.
We stopped at a sweet souvenier/gas station on the way to the resort and when we pulled up one of the employees came out and opened the car door for me. All I was thinking is that Chevron really needs to step it up!:) We purchased a few gifts for family and friends here. They also had a little coffee shop in the store so I ordered an ice coffee. As I was watching them make it I noticed them putting scoops of ice cream in it and I knew right then and there that Fiji is exactly where I was meant to be! 🙂 Needless to say that was not the last ice coffee I drank in Fiji!
After that little shopping and coffee stop we continued on our way. We ended up getting to The Pearl hours before check in, but they were super friendly and able to accommodate us and get us checked in early. They probably took one look at us and realized we needed some rest because after 15 hours of flight time I do not “wake up like this!” LOL.
After checking in we walked around taking in all of the beauty, had lunch and then unpacked for our 8 days in paradise. That evening we were able to to attend a “meet and greet” with our local Fijian church members along with a Pastor from New Zealand. They were all so extremely nice and it immediately felt like a family gathering.
Brandon and I have been very blessed to have been able to travel to quite a few places in our short marriage and I think we both agree that this has been the best trip we have been on yet! I have so many pictures and details I want to share with you all so I am breaking this trip up into a few separate posts! I hope you have enjoyed seeing our Day 1 pictures!
Thank you so much for stopping by! Happy weekend beauties!
I used to be so torn on whether I liked how the peplum looked on me. I adored how they looked on everyone else, but every time I tried one on I would be so disappointed that they never looked equally cute on me. Then I discovered there is a whole new world of peplum tops out there and I was just trying the wrong style for my body type. There are fitted styles where the peplum starts at the natural waistline. I truly adore this style and I continued to try it over and over, but because I have a short torso it doesn’t exactly look right on me (in my eyes at least). Every time I shopped I saw a peplum top I wanted and kept on trying them until I found the perfect one and I did friends! I have found that the peplum that falls a little below my natural waistline is the most flattering on me. I like the more loose fitting styles and my favorite of all time is the high low as seen in these pics! What I am saying girls, is that this must have silhouette can be flattering on any body type. I believe there is a peplum out there for everyone!:) Personally, I like to pair them up with straight slacks for the office and denim for a day out. Unfortunately, the Topshop style shown here is sold out online, but I linked up a few of my other favorite peplum tops and denim below.
I hope everyone had a great weekend and a great Monday! Well, as great as a Monday can be! My hubby and I enjoyed a get together with our sweet friends on Saturday and did some last minute shopping Sunday for Fiji trip at the end of this week! We are so very excited and I will be sharing some of my personal packing tips with you all once I get to packing…so expect a post on Thursday at midnight. LOL!
Thank you so much for stopping by friends! Have a wonderful evening!

Where should I start, this skirt or this cute tee?! Okay… let’s start with this tee, I mean HELLO, can we say must have?! T&J Designs has so many cute styles it was SO hard to decide on which one to get! Check out their site and you’ll see what I’m talking about! I love graphic tees because you can wear them with your favorite jeans and heels and feel sexy & still comfortable or you can dress them up with your favorite skirt like I did yesterday and add a little bit of glamour to your “casual Friday”. Also, I love fun graphic tanks for workouts. My favorite this week, “Gym Hair Don’t Care”. It basically tells everyone how I feel without having to say a word. 🙂 And doesn’t it seem so much easier to get to the gym when your workout clothes are just as cute? I sure think so.
Okay, now this skirt. I can’t get enough of the maxi skirts! Number one reason is that they make my 5’3 (and a half)” self look and feel so much taller! And this vibrant pink is definitely a color that I will sport all year around! Neons in the fall? Why not?!
Because I am so obsessed with graphic tees and maxi skirts I linked up a few of my favorites below. All under $50 and don’t forget to sign up for T&J’s mailing list for 15% off of your next order, you’re welcome 🙂
Have you ever went on a crazy strict diet for an upcoming event? You did amazing and you ended up looking absolutely as you pictured for this gala, but then the next day you are walking around the kitchen like Pacman eating everything in site? Well, that basically describes my no shopping challenge! LOL
Look, I wasn’t sure I could complete the challenge to begin with so when I did I figured I deserved a little something or a few somethings 🙂 But in my defense (if my husband is reading this) I like shopping deals. It brings me great joy to find something at a steal of a price! I do occasionally splurge on high end pieces, but I really have to know that I will get a lot of use out of it and that I absolutely need it in my life. I am that person that will mostly wear something only once. I am an avid donator and am selling my once worn things all the time on Depop. So hey this is basically a win, win for everyone! The purchaser gets a great deal and I find the next deal which eventually will pass down to someone else in the near future! Anyway, with that being said I did quite the shopping overhaul this past weekend and I got some pretty amazing deals too so I wanted to share a few of them with you so that you could snag them before they are gone!

Shoes: Lulu’s | Hat: Fashion Manor | Dress: This exact dress is no longer available, but I found us some other must have styles here, here, here and here.
I cannot wait to wear a sweet chunky knit sweater and riding boots, but Houston weather is not forecasting for that attire just yet. Until then long sleeve maxi’s will transition me into fall. Since this amazing print does all the talking for me simple accessories were all I needed that day! I can’t get enough of this hat either. You may get tired of seeing it! 🙂
I paired my dress with single strap heels, but these dresses look equally as cute with boots!
I hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend! As my 40 day no shopping challenge ended on September 1st I have been doing some major shopping and I cannot wait to share my awesome finds with you all this week!
So this is how these D.I.Y. projects normally come about in my house… I see something on HGTV or Pinterest that I super love and then I try researching my “ready to buy/use” option. Once I have sticker shock I tell myself ” I can totally make that for half the cost!” Yes, most times halfway through my projects I’m telling myself I should have just bought it and sometimes because it is not going as quickly as I like I try to find a way to make the process easier which brought us this post…what started as an anticipated 10 step process became a 4 step process! I read many different ways the “distressed” look could be achieved and while I started this project thinking I was going to use the 10 step candle wax option halfway through I decided I needed this to go quicker 🙂
Tools you will need:
Wooden pallet- I used 2 different sizes
Decorative cabinet/drawer knobs
Electric Sander
Electric Drill
2″ Flat Paint Brush
Foam Paint Brush
Base Paint
Top Coat Paint
Paper Towels
Paint Container
Step One:
Sand pallet to make as smooth as possible.
Step Two:
Using the 2″ flat paint brush, paint the pallet with the base color of your choice. I used a dark gray.
Let dry for 24 hours.
Step Three:
Pour top coat/lighter paint (I used French Silver) into a paint container. Mix in water, 1 teaspoon at a time until paint is like a thin wash. Test on small spot of pallet and be sure it does not bubble when applying. Once you test the small section apply to entire pallet using your foam brush. Allow to dry for 24 hours.
Step 4:
Drill holes where you want to place your knobs and screw knobs in. Add accessories and VOILA! You can now add handyman to your resume! 🙂
If you are following me on social media you will know that I am on day 8 of 40 of my no shopping challenge. Yes, you heard that right! NO.SHOPPING.CHALLENGE. This means no new clothes, no new handbags, no new shoes! (Insert ugly crying here) It’s going to be a rough one! Hence the title of this post.
BUT, as I am only on Day 8 of the challenge, I’m still doing okay and still enjoying my closet remix. This week I have really enjoyed my window pane prints. A print that is amust havein every girls wardrobe!
It is no surprise why this print returns season after season! I am in love with the black and white because it looks crisp and sophisticated. You can business it up for the office and sass it up for date night or drinks with the girls!
Ilike to pair my shift dress with basic black pumps and a blazer for a day at the office, however, I dressed it up a bit more here with vibrant pink heels and accessorized with some of my favorite designer inspired pieces.
I have had this dress for a while, but here is a similar one fromUrban Outfittersthat is only $39.99! Necklace and earrings can be found at Fashion Manor. Get similar vibrant pink heels from Go Jane for under $20!
Pair this crisp and sophisticated print with your favorite distressed jeans and necklace for a more casual, yet still chic, look.
Again, get similar ankle strap heels like the styles shown above at Go Jane for only $17.18. Let’s just be real…for that price you may want to go ahead and purchase all available colors 🙂 This Forever 21 top is sold out but here are equally adorable styles from Expresshere andhere. I also love a good pair of distressed jeans! Here are some perfect light wash options fromExpress andForever 21.
I hope everyone is enjoying their Friday so far and looking forward to a fun-filled weekend with loved ones! Thanks for stopping by!
After what seems like forever, I am publishing my first blog post (OMG!). For years I have adored many bloggers from fashion, fitness and travel and I have been dreaming about joining this community. So, hey, what better time than the present right?! I hope you enjoy this path with me as I plan on sharing everything from personal style, healthy lifestyle, and my travels with you. Ecstatic is an understatement of what I am feeling today! I have been extremely blessed to have received positive vibes and words of encouragement from some sweet and successful bloggers and for that I am grateful!
As of lately, my daily concern has been “how not to melt in this Houston heat” so I figured I could start here 🙂
To Dye For 7/26/2015
Trying to figure out what to wear in this unpredictable Houston weather is difficult enough. When dressing for a day out in the 98 degree heat with, what it feels like, 198% level of humidity, I try to wear something with as much ventilation as possible. Dresses, loose fitting tops, open backs, cut-outs, lightweight and breathable fabrics, etc. If my day doesn’t call for a bikini in weather like this, my automatic go –to option is a light and airy dress. Today it is this cute little tie dye number and it’s on crazy sale right now at Agaci.
Here are some other really sweet styles that I adore from Lulu’s and Nordstrom.
I am wearing a lace undergarment from Calvin Klein that I have had for years, but I found some similar styles that work just as perfectly from Hanky Panky, Forever 21, and Cosabella. If you prefer a “no show” look, here are a few options from Target and Nordstrom.
I paired this sweet tie dye dress with its sole mate, fringe. Because you can never have enough fringe in your life I found a few different styles from DSW, Lulu’s, and Aldo that are priced to fit everyone’s budget!
I hope everyone is enjoying this fabulous Sunday! Thank you for stopping by!
