Happy New Year loves!

This is my first blog post for 2016 so what perfect time to write about what is most important to me, my SQUAD, also known as my family. 🙂

I consider myself very blessed. It’s not about the things you have but about the people you have around you. My family is everything to me and I could not have asked for a better one. As I grew up as the youngest and only girl in the family I have to say it was almost like growing up with 2 sets of parents. My brothers were always protective. When I say protective I mean like boys calling my house at 5pm and my oldest brother answering and saying it was past my curfew LOL. Of course then I didn’t understand it, but now I have come to appreciate it. Each individual in my family is very special to me and for each a different reason. Although, we all have similarities, there are strengths in everyone that I deeply admire and try to emulate. My Dad, selfless and hard working, my Mom, social butterfly and easy going, my oldest brother, determined and giving, my second oldest brother, kind and funny. Having role models such as these 4 in my life has really been amazing and any success I have had in my life I have to give all the credit to them. Literally, my day ones. Yes, we may not always agree on everything but at the end of the day we always end up on the same side, you know?

Above is my sister in law Noemi with my 5 nephews and niece. Little Manny (yes, he is taller than everyone and we still call him little Manny), Iliana, Jordan, Jonathan, Bryant and Jerald.

Above is my sister in law Crystal with my other 2 nephews and 2 nieces. 🙂 Sierra, Cienna, Kristopher Jr. and Urijah.

And of course a post about my squad wouldn’t be complete without talking about this guy! 😉 Growing up with 3 loving, respectful and caring men I didn’t know if I would find someone that would live up to that but I did!

Although I like to think I work hard at emulating what my family is; selfless, loving, caring, etc. I know in reality I have days where I am hard to deal with, emotional, frankly just a brat. But this guy right here…my best friend and biggest supporter deals with me and always knows how to make the worse day the BEST day!

So happy Brandon and I got to spend both Christmas and New Years with my family in California. We typically are only there for Christmas so it was really nice to spend extra time with them this past week and a half! If that doesn’t start off the year right, I don’t know what will! 🙂

Cheers to 2016!! Last year was good to us, but with my squad by my side it only gets better from here! Surround yourself with a good tribe. Positive vibes are contagious!

Personalized Gifts Made From The Heart

I LOVE making gift baskets for people. It is really like my go-to thing! If anyone is still in need of the perfect gift this is a great way to show someone how much you appreciate them without having to pay rush shipping fees! Plus it is a really great way to incorporate many of the individuals’ favorite things!

The above basket was inspired by and made for the Champagne lovers in my life! In addition to 2 bottles of their favorite champagne I found ways to incorporate many other things they like. This fun basket consisted of the following:

Two bottles of champagne
Gold polka dot flutes

Cute mugs (they also like Star Wars if you can’t tell 🙂 )

I accessorized the basket with tinsel and ornaments. The boxes of tea and cocoa were used underneath the tinsel to ensure everything on top was able to sit at different heights and be stable. Putting this together was so much fun and the recipients loved it! I promise yours will too!

This gift started around the serving platter. My sweet coworker always made comments about my platter when I brought things in for potlucks so I knew exactly what I wanted to get her. I dressed this one up with Starbucks coffee, cute coffee mug, hot cocoa, a bunch of ornaments and garland.

Okay, on a side note though, who watched Miss Universe last night?! Holy moly! I was going through all sorts of emotions for everyone on stage and I was just on my couch! Poor Steve Harvey he is getting so much crap for this. I know the contestants were all filled with nerves on that stage but I’m sure he was too on LIVE TV trying to ensure he did everything 100% right. Towards the end (before the final 3 were announced) he started stumbling his words already to make me believe he was just nervous as well. Poor Ms. Colombia for having to go through all those great emotions just to find out they announced the wrong winner and poor Ms. Philippines that she didn’t get “her moment” to celebrate. I’m sure she felt bad for Ms. Colombia and also all those people yelling things because they were upset about the mistake. OMG! Well, they all did so amazing and looked so fabulous!! A huge congrats to my cousin (not really my cousin) Ms. Philippines!

Pattern Play with Old Navy

So I walked into Old Navy to buy my niece gloves, scarves and beanies that she asked for and then I walked out with this sweater. 🙂 I don’t regret it.

Fortunately, my company has partnered up with United Way and one of the fundraising programs we have in place is that we donate $5 each Thursday we want to wear jeans. Umm, yes please! So I love how this perfectly structured sweater dresses up my casual Thursday for the office!

Is everyone done holiday shopping?! Yeah, me neither ;( But I am so close! 🙂 My nephews are super easy to shop for and my nieces are super fun to shop for so I am not complaining at all! I love it!

10 Quotes That Get Me Through Life

NUMBER ONE: THE GOLDEN RULE

I’m just little ole me and though I wish I had millions of dollars and magic powers to change the world for how I believe God intended I don’t have either of those things so I just truly try to live my everyday showing everyone I cross paths with positivity, love and true sincerity. If I could leave a complete stranger thinking “wow, there are still good people out there” then my job for the day is done.

OMG, I couldn’t agree with this one more. I know the saying “forgive and forget” but let’s be honest when some major falling out happens in your life it is not easily forgotten. Especially by the ones who were hurt along the away. The day you come to a realization of something and can say what you learned from it and thank someone for showing you that experience is definitely true forgiveness. So I say thank you ex boyfriend LOL.

Have you ever encountered an individual that has their mind so set on pursuing the perfect “happiness” that they are too stressed out to realize the simplicity of creating it? Trust me I’m not happy all day everyday, but finding happiness in each day will really change your life.

Is that an official quote from someone? LOL. I just googled it and all sorts of different things came up. Anyway, I had an instructor tell me and a class full of bright eyed students that once and it really stuck. Especially now as a blogger whose dream is to be able to do this full time. I am doing my best to give my all to this which means putting full time hours into blogging as well as putting full time hours into my corporate job. Sometimes that means kissing my husband good night at 11pm and working a couple more hours before I call it a night.

Basically, don’t settle. Good is good, but great is GREAT! We may get comfortable in a state that we are at which is totally fine, but if you want more don’t be afraid to go for it. What’s the worst thing that can happen? You go back to good?

Truth. Make a list of steps you need to take to accomplish whatever you are wishing for. I promise you’ll get there much faster 😉

Now that’s deep. Sometimes when I think about all of the things I want to accomplish in the future it’s easy to think “ugh, if only I had this or if only I can do this I could make it happen so much quicker.” I have to remember, baby steps. I need to start with where I am today and once I remember that I realize what I can do is a lot and what I have is much more than I even knew.

Ummm, enough said. Pray. It really works.

Okay, enough of my Life Coach in training post LOL. I actually have many more that I like to remind myself of on the daily, but I figured most people may stop reading at 10! I just really wanted to share these with you because we all have a choice of how we choose to react to every situation. Life isn’t perfect and when we want great things we must go through obstacles to get there. I’m not just talking about career wise, but life in general. Unfortunately, it isn’t all rainbows and sunshine, but if we keep a positive outlook it is all achievable I promise you. You may see that I often hashtag #liveauthentically and #goodvibesonly in my social media because truly that’s what I want to surround our lives with. Surrounding yourselves with people who define these 2 things will really make EVERYTHING in life seem so much easier. 🙂

I am so happy I ended up wearing this tee to the holiday party because that is literally how I felt when they called my name!

The Houston Fashion Bloggers holiday party was held at Lily Rain’s newest location on Voss. Have you been to a Lily Rain location? If not, you MUST! And if you have you can understand my love for this boutique. Okay, so on November 17th, I received a group email from Shasie, the Founder of the Houston Fashion Bloggers. The email was to inform everyone of who was selected as Award Nominees. Never in this entire universe did I think my name would end up on this list and TWICE at that! The Style_Lynn Kind was nominated for Best Newcomer Blog and Best Blog Design. O…M…G!! Seriously I was just so honored and ecstatic to be nominated amongst all of these amazing and talented bloggers who already have a much larger following than little ole’ me! When they were announcing the nominees for the Best Newcomer Blog category at the party I was so filled with joy and love hearing all of the other bloggers names because “whoa! is this even right? Did my name get in by accident?” then they announced the winner…The Style_Lynn Kind!!! I was just standing there and my friend/photographer extraordinaire says “I think you’re supposed to go up there!” LOL. So then I did… and now here I am with still the biggest smile on my face!!! Did you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving? Full of love, laughs and lots of turkey?! Good! Same here! The Mr. and I hosted Thanksgiving for the 3rd year this year and it turned out amazing. At least if my cooking really was horrible his sweet family would never tell me and they keep coming back every year so I must be doing something right! LOL

I also ran the Houston Turkey Trot 10K as I have for the past 4 years and the weather was just perfect for it! I wish I would have gotten pictures of all of the turkey costumes and tutus!

Did anyone brave the Black Friday crowds?! Or were there crowds? I read retail sales were somewhere down 10% from last year, YIKES! I remember being a retail Buyer and I don’t miss having to come back to that division meeting after the weekend. On the plus side I hear online sales increased and I can say I attributed to that. 🙂 You’re welcome stores all over the globe! Would love to hear what your buys were!
