Entry Way Table Refresh

This post is done in partnership with Walmart.

We love having people over and it’s really important to me that our friends, family and guests always feel welcomed! The front door and entry way is very important because it’s the first thing they see!

Let’s start with the front door mat ๐Ÿ™‚ Ya’ll know I love changing mine out with fun sayings frequently! I just changed ours out from “It’s Always Happy Hour Around Here” to “Welcome Friends and Family” for Thanksgiving. Cute pup not included ๐Ÿ™‚

Now let’s talk about an entry way refresh. I like to keep ours simple with some faux plants and something that is gonna make my house smell good LOL whether it’s a scented candle or diffuser. I recently discovered these diffusers and I am now obsessed. You just add drops of your favorite essential oil and no plug in needed!

These tin vases are great too because you can fill them with real flowers, faux flowers or basket filler of any kind! I currently have pumpkins in them.

I have linked a similar table here from Walmart and we hung a 36″ round mirror to open up the space. It makes a huge difference!

Fall Outfits From Thread & Supply

Gimme all the button downs and shackets please! It’s officially layering season here in Texas and when I say layering I don’t mean wear layers and layers of clothing because it’s going to be freezing all day. I mean be strategic with your layering because it will be a little chilly in the morning and most likely super hot by the afternoon. Houston friends know what I’m talking about. Thread & Supply has the perfect pieces for that! I recently got a ton of shackets and button downs that you can style for the day time over a white bodysuit or t-shirt and if you are in a cooler climate they are perfect to style under a coat as well!

Beauty

Beauty Empties: Love It Or Leave It

Back with another love it or leave it beauty post! Sharing some things I have used lately, what they claim to do and spilling the beans on if I would repurchase them or not!

best moisturizers for winter

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Firming Collagen Cream

What It’s Supposed To Do: This moisturizer is packed with Collagen, Peptides and Niacinamide to help sculpt and smooth skin making it look bouncy, healthy and youthful with fewer visible fine lines and wrinkles and a soft, supple texture.

How To Use: Apply to face and neck twice daily in the AM and PM. Can be used with or without serum.

Would I Repurchase?: Have you seen people on Tik Tok raving about this firming collagen cream? Well, they aren’t lying! My skin is more on the dry side and needs extra love in the dry, winter season. This First Aid firming cream has kept my skin moisturized all day without feeling greasy and leaves my skin looking more plump and firm. I would definitely repurchase!

Glo Daily Hydration +

What It’s Supposed To Do: “Daily Hydration Serum restore skin’s suppleness with this instant, skin-quenching boost. High levels of water-binding humectants hydrate thirsty skin, helping balance moisture content and prevent water loss.”

How To Use: Apply sparingly after a vitamin c serum. If needed, your favorite Glo Skin Beauty moisturizer can be applied on top. Use daily for best results.

Would I Repurchase?: Not me, realizing I have not been applying it correctly LOL. I discovered this brand and this product at a facial appointment. The esthetician recommended it for my dry skin. I was actually adding a drop or 2 into my daily moisturizing and applying that way. I thought it was the most bomb moisturizer cocktail I ever made! It hydrated and plumped my skin instantly with each application. It also lasts a long time too since you don’t need to use much! I am definitely going to repurchase.

EVA NYC Shapeshifter Flexible Spray

What It’s Supposed To Do: “This certified cruelty-free hairspray provides a non-sticky, workable hold to lock in styles and add a glossy finish.”

How To Use: Use on dry, styled hair. Shake and mist all over to set your look.

Would I Repurchase?: I bought this when we were in Hawaii because I forgot my hairspray. It says it is supposed to provide a non sticky hold and no crunch but I feel quite the opposite. I felt like it was really sticky and the first day I used it, my hair didn’t hold the curl so then the next few days I felt like I had to use more product to hold my curls which made my hair more sticky with product and lots of crunch LOL. I kept using it for 2 weeks because I couldn’t let the whole 8.3oz bottle go to waste but once we got home from Hawaii I decided I needed to give it a new home! It did not work for me and I will definitely not repurchase.

Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Cream

What It’s Supposed To Do:Protiniโ€™s proprietary formula restores younger, revived-looking skin, almostfrom the first application. Lines, wrinkles, and signs of sun damage appearreduced, and skin feels strengthened and moisturized.” It is said to restore your skin back to a strong, healthy state. Protini is formulated at the ideal pH of 4.0.

How To Use: Apply morning and night to clean, dry skin. Can be used alone or mixed with any Drunk Elephant serum, oil or cream. Drunk Elephant says “think of it like adding a shot of protein to your smoothie”.

Would I Repurchase?: Drunk Elephant calls this cream the “get sh*t done cream” and now I know why! ย The protini cream has amino acids and pygmy waterlily which is definitely why I can definitely see an improvement in my skinโ€˜s tone and texture. 10/10 would recommend trying this product! I will definitely repurchase in the future.

Supergoop Glow Screen

What It’s Supposed To Do: “A hydrating, makeup-gripping primer with SPF 40 and blue-light protection that has a pearlescent finish to leave skin luminous with a instant glow.

How To Use: Apply generously and evenly as the last step in your skincare routine, before your favorite foundation, and after your moisturizer. You can also wear this on its own for a no-makeup makeup glow.

Woudl I Repurchase?: Heck yes! Let’s get straight to the point, this is hands down the best SPF I have ever used on my face! Not only is it SPF 40 but it provides an instant glow so you can wear on its own for no makeup days. This hydrating sunscreen also has a makeup gripping primer so it’s amazing under makeup which means it’s one less step in your makeup routing (no additional primer needed!) Already got another tube on the way!

I hope you find today’s post helpful! Let me know if you have any additional questions about the products mentioned!

The Perfect Gifts For Kids 5 And Under

Ya’ll know gift giving is my love language and recently I’ve been getting some questions from readers wanting to get their nieces and nephews the perfect gift! So today I am rounding up a ton of really great gifts that the kids have loved getting and ones that we have enjoyed giving! Bonus: they are all available on Amazon!

toddler gift ideas

Sensory bins like these are always a good idea for both the kiddo and the parents because the kids love it and it keeps them busy giving mama a mini break haha! Amazon has a ton of different options too!

Magnets, wood puzzles and stickers are really popular with the under 3 group too! Camila can play with magnets and puzzles for hours!

Even though kids do love a good, LOUD toy, Mom and Dad usually do not LOL so I didn’t include many on here but I did have to give you this cute piano mat as an option because the kids love it and it’s not that loud ๐Ÿ™‚

This doodle magic tablet, busy board and reusable drawing pad are also great! These are some of the things we always grab for church and a flight because they keep the kids entertained and they are quiet toys.

I will link everything below!

best gift ideas for kids

Even though sensory bins and wood puzzles are still a great option, in my experience the 4 year old stage is when kids start to get super curious about everything and start requiring toys that are maybe a little more challenging but still fun! Landon is obsessed with these “build a truck” type kits! You can take it apart and the kids screw all the pieces back on.

These magnet tiles and building kits will literally keep the kiddos busy for hours so even the parents will be thanking you for this gift ๐Ÿ™‚

At this age the kids love to mimick everything they see Mom and Dad doing, so this Melissa & Doug coffee machine and sink are sure to be a favorite!

Pretend play is also very strong at this age so we have gotten the kids a few of these play tents and we switch them out every once in a while. They now have a fire truck, spaceship and a food truck tent!

This wood toy set and this makeup kit make a great gift because any girl at this age is going to be obsessed with unicorns and play makeup!

Everything shown above will be linked below!

Travel

Kona Hawaii Big Island

Last month we were so grateful to spend another family vacation on the Big Island of Hawaii. I love that Kona feels a little more slower pace and less touristy. It’s super family friendly, tons of things to do and if you want you can island hop it was just a short 30 minute flight to Oahu!

Today I’m going to share where we stayed and what we did!

Where We Stayed:

We stayed at Marriot’s Waikoloa Ocean Club for 2 nights because our house rental was not available for the first two days we were there. The Ocean Club had a beautiful property as far as pools, restaurants and lobby goes but honestly the rooms weren’t the best. I feel like they were a bit outdated. They were clean, don’t get me wrong, but we are loyal to Marriot hotels and this is one I would probably not stay at again.

For the remainder of our trip we stayed in a house rental booked through the Marriot Villas so basically like an Air B&B but each home is evaluated by Marriot to ensure that every home listed can be serviced at a standard expected of Marriott International. This is the exact house that we stayed in and we absoutely loved it! It was spacious, had a beautiful outdoor space complete with an outdoor kitchen. The owners of the space had all of the equipment a family would need for a perfect beach vacation and then some! Boogie boards, beach chairs, sand toys, snorkling gear, wheeled cooler, etc.

The Kulalani property where the house is located has a fitness center, multiple pools and hot tubs so you get many of the same amenities that you would at a hotel. Also, the location was amazing. Not only was it less than a 5 minute drive to church for us but minutes down the street is the Shops at Mauna Lani where you can find a supermarket, coffee shops, restaurants, clothing and accessory stores, art, and free weekly entertainment in the evenings. So many nearby beaches and golf courses as well.

This was our 2nd time to stay at the Kulalani property. In 2019 we stayed in a different house so just keep in mind there are different Marriot Villa options in the area depending on how many people you need to sleep. After staying in both rentals, I realized that depending on the owners of the specific property you may get some added bonuses. For example, the home we rented two years ago gave us all access to Hilton resorts and private beaches. This year, the owners had access to all of the Marriot owned resorts and private beaches. I, 10/10, would recommend this home rental!

Things You DOn’t Want To Miss On The Big Island

  • Makalawena Beach – I’m just laughing out loud over here because of the unexpected rough terrain we had to drive through to get to this beautiful beach! Please see my Hawaii highlights here to see what I am talking about LOL. You don’t need a 4WD but I would probably recommend having at least a mid size SUV. I can’t imagine driving through this in a car that is lower to the ground. The special thing about Makalawena Beach is that so many locals and visitors described it as almost deserted, postcard perfect beach so of course we had to check it out! It was less than a 20 minute drive from where we were staying but the rocky roads took us another 30 minutes to get through! Once you park in the parking lot, it is another 25 minute walk. If 25 minutes is too long, there is a state park/beach right next to the parking lot but if you don’t mind walking the extra distance (I mean you have already off roaded there at this point LOL), I promise you it’s worth it! You’ll see a few goats on the trail to Makalawena Beach and once you reach the soft, white sand beach with clear waters and hardly any people, you’ll be reminded it was a all worth it!
  • Pu’uhonua O Honaunau (poo-oo-ho-noo-ah o hoe-now-now)- “Imagine you had just broken the sacred laws, the kapu, and the only punishment was death. Your only chance of survival is to elude your pursuers and reach the Pu’uhonua, a place of refuge. The Pu’uhonua protected the kapu breaker, defeated warriors, as well as civilians during the time of battle. No physical harm could come to those who reached the boundaries of the Pu’uhonua.” This National Historical Park, formerly known as Place of Refuge, is beautifully maintained. Not only is it surrounded by the beautiful turquoise waters but it’s a great way to learn about Hawaiian history and culture. They have educational displays, carved statues and if you are lucky you can catch a live cultural demonstration.
  • Snorkel At 2 Step Beach– Right next to Pu’uhonua O Honaunau but you will have to get back in your car and drive there. There is a small parking area just beyond the boat ramp and on the side of the road. It has been named one of the best snorkleing spots on the island. Although you can book a snorkeling boat tour, you can also bring your own equipment and snorkel at your leisure! Just FYI- 2 Step Beach does not have a ton of sand as it is mostly lava rocks so if just relaxing by the beach is what you are looking for that day, I would hit up another one of the local beaches. Our kids love to play in the sand and jump over the waves breaking at shore and this beautiful snorkeling spot did not have that but again a great spot for beginner snorkeling and since it’s right next door to Pu’uhonua O Honaunau we definitely wanted to check it out! The name two step comes from the easy access to the water. It’s literally 2 steps off the boat ramp and you can enjoy some beginner snorkeling.
  • La’Aloa Bay– also as Disappearing Sands Beach or White Sands Beach. Magic Sands is one of the best Kona Beaches, great for swimming, surfing, boogie boarding, even snorkeling and scuba diving. And right across the street where we parked was a food truck that was serving th most delicious Hawaiian Shaved Ice!
  • Hapuna Beach– Located between Mauna Lani Resort and Mauna Kea Resort so it was only maybe a 15 minute drive from our house. Hapuna Beach is the Big Islandโ€™s largest sandy beach, stretching nearly a half mile from north to south. It’s so large that even on “crowded” days it doesn’t feel super touristy. A great spot to picnic and boogie board with the kids. Probably one of our favorite spots to watch the sunset!
  • Volcano National Park/Chain of Craters RoadThe Chain of Craters road is one of the most scenic roads on the Big Island. It stretches 19 miles long from the top of the Kilauea volcano all the way down to sea level. Along the way, youโ€™ll pass through old craters of various shapes and sizes, hiking trails, lava fields, petroglyphs, a sea arch and more. If youโ€™re planning to visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park the scenic drive is a definitely a must do!
  • Hilo Waterfalls – Visiting the Hilo waterfalls should definitely be at the top of your list when visiting The Big Island. Hilo was about an 1.5 hour drive from where we were staying. One of the most famous Hilo waterfalls is the 442 foot Akaka Falls so that is the one we went to see! The state of Hawaii has created the Akaka State Park so now there are paved paths along the rainforest view which make the hike super kid friendly! Other waterfalls to check out: Umauma Falls and Rainbow Falls
  • Stargazing on the slopes of Mauna Kea– Ya’ll just look at the photos people have of this experience! Simply breathtaking! The Mauna Kea Observatories are a number of independent astronomical research facilities and large telescopes that are located at the summit of Mauna Kea on the Big Island of Hawai?i. Unfortunately, we were not able to do this because they do not recommend children under 13 years of age to visit the summit because they have a much higher incidence of high altitude problems. We will have to save this one for when the kiddos are older! PS. Grabbed these photos from the Mauna Kea Observatories website since I didn’t have any of my own !
  • Helicopter Tour – this is something that is still on our list of things to do as well! The kids are too little to do this tour right now but as soon as they are old enough, we are doing it! There’s a ton of different tours you can take; adventure tours over different islands that include stopping for an afternoon of paddle boarding, you can choose to fly over the iconic waterfalls, but the one I really think would be cool is over the volcanos! How amazing that view would be looking down into an active volcano. Yes, I do have a new found obsession with volcanoes now LOL

If you are heading to The Big Island soon, I hope this post is helpful! I’ll be publishing a separate post sharing everything we did in Honolulu and where we stayed. Stay tuned for that!
