Hustle. NOUN:busy movement and activity.

Hustler. NOUN: an aggressively enterprising person; a go-getter.

These two words are the first things that come to mind when I think about blogging and bloggers.

I don’t think many people realize how much time and work goes into blogging. From the outside looking in it may seem like blogging is all about taking pictures in pretty clothes and going to events. Yes, that is definitely part of it and really fun, but what people don’t see is the hours of editing photos, writing content, late nights reaching out and responding to brands and PR companies because if we don’t then how else are are we going to land collaborations. This is a business. And when you first start, you, and you alone, are the CEO, CFO, Writer, Editor, Brand Manager, Stylist and in most cases your own PR firm. The bigger you want your brand to be, the harder you have to work. In addition to everything else you have to make sure you’re on top of your social media and showing love to other bloggers too. I spend a lot of late nights on social media doing my best to respond to comments and DM’s and ensuring that the people that are supporting me see that I am supporting them too.

Some days it becomes easy to get stressed and feel overwhelmed because most importantly, in addition to building your empire, you still want to be a good co worker/employee, a good friend, a good daughter, a good sister, a good aunt and a good wife.

So today I am sharing some things that get me through each hard day.  These rules don’t just apply to blogging. They will work for any person, career and business.

CELEBRATE THE LITTLE THINGS. It is easy to have your eye on the big prize. You know, having hundred’s of thousands of followers, working with all of the biggest retailers, maybe landing that dream promotion but that doesn’t happen overnight. An easy way to stay motivated is to ensure that you celebrate all of the small victories. Maybe this comes easy to me because I get excited about extremely “small” things and am easily amused LOL but I’ve found that this has helped me SO much on my hard days. For example, I get JUST as excited when I collab with a “small” brand vs. what one would consider a “big” brand. I mean HELLO they both want to work with ME? I mean both of those cause for a celebration!! Am I right?! Also, a great example is my social media following. You guys, NO LIE. I got so excited when I reached 1,000 followers on instagram it wasn’t even funny how excited I was. Like, buy myself an entire cake and eat it in one sitting excited. 🙂 and now that I am at 17K (HOLY MOLY!!!!! I still can’t believe it!) behind the scenes I am celebrating  like every time I get 10 more readers. Brandon and my sister can back me up on that. 🙂 It’s little things like that. These keep me from getting discouraged on the hard days. Every victory no matter how big or small is a win.

DON’T COMPARE YOURSELF TO ANYONE ELSE– This is the easiest way to get discouraged. We are all different and will all grow at a different pace. Brands look for different things at different times. I promise you that if you continue to hustle your time will come and it is going to be awesome!!

IF YOU WANT IT, WORK FOR IT– Things don’t happen just by wishing for it. Don’t get discouraged by hearing “no”. When I hear no I always think “okay, maybe next time” and “onto the next”. Keep at that hustle and I promise you that victory will come.

and my ultimate favorite life rule, The Golden Rule

DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WANT DONE UNTO YOU– I mentioned earlier the amount of time that is spent on social media. It truly means a lot to me when people actually take the time to “show me love” and I appreciate each and every person that follows me so why wouldn’t I want to show them that love back? People often ask how I’ve grown my social media and aside from putting out content that I believe is good, it’s about reciprocating the support you like to see from others. It’s a win, win.

PRAY– Even I have days were I’m like “repeating life rules above ain’t gonna do it today!” so I pray. Do I pray for God to place one of those “wishes” in my lap? No. I pray for more strength and patience to accomplish life rules 1-4 and then you know what? He blesses me with strength and patience which allows me to work harder and then….IT happens. That goal I had been working towards all month just happens. And though sometimes I just want to be like OMG, I feel so lucky we have to remember to look in the mirror and remember that was ALL YOU (well and Jesus).

You’re a hustler girl. Celebrate that.

Continue to work hard and stay humble because GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO HUSTLE.

xo, Roselyn

  8. Roselyn,

First, I love your sweatshirt and second, thanks for these reminders. I knew blogging wasn’t going to be easy, but I don’t think you really know until you do it and you’re right. All you can do is hustle. Keep doing what you’re doing. God has big plans for you.

    Cheers, J
