Casual Friday + Things Texans Don’t Say

Happy Friyay!

I’m not sure if you remember, but  a few months ago I wrote a post called “Things Californians Don’t Say”. If you didn’t catch it, you can read it here.

Us Californians don’t have all the fun sayings like the South like “madder than a wet hen” but, we do have some verbiage that I catch myself saying in conversation and it is immediately followed by someone asking where I am from. So today I am sharing things I will forever say because the Californian in me!

So, things like “gnarly, rad, bodacious” are words that Brandon likes to say when imitating me. I’m literally laughing out loud right now because I know not one person that has ever said those words to me and I grew up and lived in California for the majority of my life. I even surfed and you guys we’re not all like “man, those waves were bodacious!” LOL

But things I do catch myself saying and then someone immediately asking me where I’m from are:

Saying the word “the” before any freeway. For example, take the 10 to the beltway to the 225. I thought that was normal, but I’ve been called out on that so many times! To my friends, do you notice when I say this?

Dude. Okay, I know that may be in the same realm as the words I mentioned earlier, but this one is something I say all.the.time.

Hella. Something we say to express words like “a lot, really or very”.

Like. I like say that word way too I much, I know. 🙂

June Gloom. If you are from California you know to expect that every year. Overcast, cloudy and a little foggy in the month of June. So your beach days are not the sunniest of them all, but nonetheless that does not stop you from going to “catch some waves“. It’s like we have perfect weather all year long, we have to have something to “complain” about.

California. Most people from California cringe when you call it Cali. It actually identifies that you are obviously not from there. It doesn’t bother me at all, but just warning you. 🙂

On the same note, so many people (including my sister) have told me that they can totally hear my southern drawl when I talk on my Snapchat! Do you hear it?! Am I slowly turning into a Texan?

The next time you see me, I’m going to be like “hey ya’ll I’m like hella fixin’ to get on the 45” lololol

We definitely don’t have super fun sayings like Southern states do, but the vocabulary is very distinct.

Californians, did I miss anything? And to my Texas friends, do you notice when I say these things?! I would love to hear!
