Pros and Cons of Having Your Husband As Your Photographer

Happy Wednesday loves!

I have had a lot of people ask me who my photographer is and I laugh when I answer “my husband”. Every once in a while I am fortunate enough to work with a photographer and sometimes I can even bribe my sweet friend Nicole with brunch, but yes it’s true that the Mr. takes the majority of my blog photos. He never really cared to be credited or anything like that.

Well, that was until last week when Old Navy posted one our photos. SO SO exciting!! And all of sudden he was like “you didn’t even mention me in that post!” LOL. That guy….

Today I am sharing some pros and cons of having a photographer who is also your husband.

PROS

  1. No need to prep for a full on photoshoot each time. We can take outfit photos “on the fly” when we are on our way to an event or even church

2. You don’t have to pay him

3. You have your photos instantly

4. He will capture the most genuine smile and laugh. I don’t know about you guys, but my husband says the most ridiculous things when we are shooting.

5. He will make you feel like the prettiest thing on this earth even when you aren’t feeling yourself that day.

CONS

1. He won’t tell you that your necklace was backwards the entire time…because he doesn’t even notice.

2. When you ask “does my arm look awkward?” or
“how should I stand?” you get the same answer. A shrug because he has no idea what you define as an awkward arm and doesn’t really care how you stand as long as the shoot gets wrapped up quickly.

3.You have to go through a trillion photos to pick the ones you want to use because you realize your husband never.stopped.shooting. Seriously, I’ll find photos where I’m fixing my hair becauseĀ it got stuck to my lip gloss, photos when I’m fixing my undergarments and the best ones are where when he asks me “are we almost done?” and then captures the sassy look on my face. šŸ™‚ Clearly the answer is no.

There are definitely more pros than cons in this situation. I truly do love working with my husband. Not only does it allow us to spend more time together, but it creates so many memories too!

Who else shoots with their hubby? I would love to hearĀ a funny story!

Thank you so much for reading!

  1. Your husband takes great photos! I know what you mean about the pros and the cons. My daughter actually takes mine and she does a pretty darn good job, I think. I like that she is shorter than me because her vantage point is actually one better for fashion photography.

  2. LOL I have the same issue! My husband takes my photos sometimes too and doesn’t notice certain things. I now know to ask him certain things before we start shooting.

    Love this post!

  3. Oh my gosh, I loooooved this post!!! I had to “fire” my husband because I was getting frustrated with him and that wasn’t fair. He’s kept reminding me this wasn’t his full-time job and even though he kept trying to learn, the pictures weren’t showing it. His feelings were so hurt :-((((( It’s currently a work in progress šŸ˜‰ I LOVE this outfit and could you have found a more perfect wall!?!?!

  4. Haha I love this! My husband won’t stop shooting either and I end up with soo many awkward pictures lol. You look so pretty! Loving the bandana and the red heels. So cute.

  5. OMG YASSSSS!!!!!! I have a photographer but I use my hubby A LOT because it’s way more convenient and I don’t have to schedule it.. like you said we can do it on the fly! But those cons — they made me laugh because they’re so true!!! My hubby sometimes gets irritated when I look at the photos and I’m like why didn’t you tell me my hair looked like that or my dress was out of place?! Hahah

  6. LOVE this post- this is all so true! My boyfriend takes my pics, and we’re both just trying to learn together. One of my favorite parts of the process though, is all of the funny pics of him I have from each shoot! I always test the lighting before handing the camera over- someday I definitely want to do a funny post with all his outtakes lol!

  7. haha so true! My husband takes my photos and he “fixed” my scarf the other day during one of our photo sessions. When I got home and uploaded the photos, I was pretty much appalled at how he fixed it. I was like “That is NOT AT ALL how you wear a scarf!”. The struggle is real!

  8. omg, i have almost the exact same pros and cons with my boyfriend who shoots all my photos! especially the part about how he never stopped shooting, it’s hilarious! he’ll get shots of me while i’m putting on my lipstick, fixing my blouse, etc!

  9. Hi Roselyn, you are so cute! You look amazing in all your photos. I love your pro/con list. The majority of the time I shoot with a tripod/remote because asking my boyfriend to help does result in many unused photos (continuous shooting too!), lack for details, & “are we done” comments.

  10. I loved this!! I don’t have my husband as my photographer. My dear friend (and professional photographer) takes all my photos! But my husband is usually always there and he does a great job making me laugh!

  11. Great post! I have the same issue with my husband not noticing (sometimes the most obvious) things. But like you said he can capture some of the most brilliant and genuine photos

  12. Oooh congrats! That must be really exciting to see your photograph through a major company lol but overall, nice post & pictures!
